Solved Error 80040154 : cant sign in to WLM 2011

Problem:

Cant sign in to WL Messenger 2011 because its giving Error 80040154 (despite having active internet connection and Browser(s), WL Mail all are working.

Here is screenshot:

Steps I have done to resolve the problem:

So, I clicked the link in the error-window and and went to this webpage and followed the instructions given.

In elevated CMD, it gave the right message:

Current situation:

But, after restart, its showing upto "loading social networks" then coming back to the error again like the first screenshot (= giving Error 80040154).

What to do next?

Hello Abhishek, try this go here:

Download details: Microsoft XML Parser (MSXML) 3.0 Service Pack 7 (SP7)

Download the msxml3.msi and then follow the wizard..

Restart your computer, and then sign in to Windows Live Messenger again. See if that fixed it. A Guy

Sorry Bill, I forgot to write, I have already done it. Before that, in elevated CMD, that pop up message was not appearing

P.S: I also saw this link and this link in our forum.

The cab file mentioned in the thread is not available, so I cat try that. Last way is uninstall-reinstall.

Sorry, I should have assumed, but had to try. Might I suggest disabling your firewall and antivirus momentarily to see if they are somehow preventing you from signing in? Obviously only do so long enough to see if it will now log in. Then reenable. A Guy

Thats OK Bill.

Nope, disabling firewall & AV does not alter the problem

(just tried now).

I was saying of this thread of our forum Where our member Espair gave a link to this forum thread. A member named Lefteris gave a link of a cab file there, but the link does not work

OK, I have solved the problem myself !

1. Remove the thing from your mind that MS says, the msi is atleast not responsible in 85% cases (thats why people cant fix using their method) for this error.

2. No other forum has this solution.

3. If this problem occurs, just think your registry has got errors due some other program, in my case it was uxthemepather.

4. So, the easiest solution for this error to fix the registry errors. But also scan for malwares too.

@RockmanNeo, Welcome to sevenforums

You can follow any of the method mentioned below to get rid of this problem:

Method 1 (I used it):

I had manually the backed up registry just after installation. I just restored it. (you can see our tutorial section how to back up the registry and restore it).

Method 2 (I advised one person in another forum, which worked well, she had no manual backup of the registry; system restore and reg check failed to detect the issue):

1. Uninstall Windows Live Essentials using Any third party tool. She used Yamicsoft Windows 7 Manager (Trial) as per my advice. Open the Smart un installer and select the Windows logo saying "Windows Live essentials 2011" (or something like that). All components will be un installed. Next, the smart un installer will ask for a scan for redundant files. Run it and delete the found files.
Now, check the registry for any errors (Please see tutorial sections) after the restart. If you find error, but can not fix yourself, please post on BSOD section of this forum for the fix.

2. Download Windows Live Essentials 2011 and select to install it.

3. Restart. It should work fine.

Hello Guys,

I'm having the same problem, last night after I update my MSN version to WLM essential 2011, I had the same error code 80040154.

After the update installtion complate, I've restart my laptop, when the Messenger launch during the window startup, it show that "UXcore.dll" was missing, and ask me to reinstall the programme, and right after this message, the Messenger appear (I wonder if this cause by the messenger, but as I browse through the web, I saw there're same case as the UXcore.dll missing error after the updates) I try to sign in after then I recieve the error code 80040154.

I tried to uninstall through the "removal programme" from control panel, and reinstall it by download the installer from WLM web page itself, and again it show the same error.

Could anyone tell me how to fix this problem?

Many Thanks, I'm new in this forum, so if there any common info I miss out, let me know... I'm helpless, please help me~

Hi Abhishek,

When do you backed up the registry? If I backing up now or after the WLME 2011 uninstalled, will it help? I not really prefer the method 2 cause it required to install a 3rd party tools, feeling like not safe (will it???)

When I first install (I use retail copy) I take a manual reg backup. Then every Sunday.

Nope that will not work

Just use that uninstaller part only; registry defrag part of these softwares are dangerous. Dont fear; Its the only way left, other than format.

Thanks for the reply, I've installed the 3rd party uninstall software that you recomended, but then after i uninstalled, then analysis as the step you say, and I'll removed all the registry that the result show. However, after I install WLME 2011, it appear the same thing, say that my UXcore.dll are missing, but as i search through the start menu, I found the UXcore.dll was actually at a floder call "shared" inside C:\WindowsLive

and then I log in again, also the same problem occur, does it have any other way to fix it??? I'm middle of nowhere now, can't get my msn done...

Yes, you can fix it now easily. I am assuming you are connected to the internet.

Now just open the Live messenger--->well it will fail---->click troubleshoot--->it will find I.P. address error--->click fix (or something like that)--->it should run nicely now.

P.S. Its very important to get your or other members and visitors feedback. May be many of WLM 2011 users have same problem will be helped.

I am still struggling with this error, i have tried..

-uninstalling with 3rd party software such as windows 7 manager.
-the official fix registering and installing the dll.
- the dll copy fix with them 2 files from program files to the other folder.

the first ever time i used this it was fine but after i rebooted it never worked again must of installed it over 20 times. Help! please

I get this error every 3-4 days, that troubleshoot and fix works for me; but it seems it will not work for everybody

This is the solution that worked for me. After installing Windows Live Messenger 2011 it was missing the wldcore.dll and wldlog.dll files. They needed to be moved from the Windows Live\Shared folder to the Windows Live\Contacts folder.

This happened to me on an HP laptop running Windows Vista Business 64-bit and was after using Windows Update to upgrade from my old messenger.
