I have been having a lot of trouble with my second monitor, once I need to unhook my laptop I have a hell of a time getting it to work again, this time it has been 2 days and I am not any closer, so I am hoping someone can help me.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A505 8 months old, with Windows 7 64 bit, 500 mg HD, 4 mg memory, and what happens is I go into screen res and select extend these displays, but the monitor doesnt get recognized, I try to reboot hoping it will get recognized and it goes back to the default of show desktop on one monitor. I checked to see if there are updates for graphics card, apparently they are up to date.
To make matters worse I now have programs "trapped" on the other monitor and do not know how to bring them back, so basically I cannot use the laptop alone or with the second monitor.

Thank you in advance!

Hi,
I have a problem similar to the one you have, i unable to extend display to my second monitor but i could clone monitors without any problem.

The trick i found, for now, to extend my display is to update the driver for my video card. At soon, i install a new driver, my display come extended and work fine. Unfortunately, at soon of i reboot, i lost the extended display and i need to update the driver again (i just go back and for with 2 drivers). My video card is a HD2600

Try this trick for see if you have my problem.
