WMP has two copies of each song?

Yesterday, I created a new partition on my HD, and moved my documents, videos, and music into it. Today, when I opened my WMP, it began "updating media files"... and it created a second copy of all my music! A typical album now looks like this:

track 1
track 1
track 2
track 2

...etc...

I checked my libraries, and there is now two music folders in there... "My Music" (in the new partition) and "Music" (in the original partition)... but the original has "0" kbytes of data.

Interestingly, the same is not true of the documents, video, or picture folders... only the music!?!

Has anyone seen this before, and can I fix it somehow?

Thanks!

OK... nevermind.

I reopened WMP, and it began the "update media" again. But this time, it ran down the whole list and took away the second copy of every song! This is truly a weird thing! And I'm kinda scared to open the WMP again... who knows what it'll do the next time!

The Solution

I figured out why I was getting duplicate copies of all of my music... Live Sync + File moved to a new partition = confusion for pc.

Last week, when I moved the My Music file to the newly created D:/ partition, I forget about Live Sync. It was still set up to sync between my Vista laptop and Win 7 desktop... with the (now empty) music folder on the C:/ partition.

Every time I fired up WMP, the auto sync would notice that the My Music folders on the two machines were different, and would refill the empty file on my C:/ drive... and my pc would then begin moving all of the "new" music into my D:/ drive... resulting in duplicates of all of the songs!

The fix was to delete the original music sync folder on the Windows Live Sync website, and create a new one associated with the D:/ drive instead of the original C:/ drive.
