Office 2010 Pro Plus Win7 x 64 Excel reconfigures Office 2010

It seems that there may be a problem in Office 2010. I just installed it to the standard MS default/recommended settings .........all looked good...used Word great..until I use Excel and each time I try to use excel it sets off an 'Office Configuration' screen which I can not stop..it take a few minutes and then loads OK. I tried to launch it from the installed prgrams icon but there is no files on 'start in' etc..I tied to create a shortcut to the desktop from the excel.exe file and get the same reconfigure issue..it seem that somehow I don't have either permissions or I have a corrupt install..all Office suite works eventually Anyone know how to fix it..please?

Have you ever had a previous version of Office on this copy of win7?

I have seen this in the past with Viso that was due to remnents of an earlier trial remaining on disk and in the registry.

I also found that if I cancelled the configuration screen the Viso would load without problems without the need to wait for completion.

There are some rather involved solution stems on Microsoft website - cannot find them at the present but will try to look for them.

The problem was that I could never get the removal steps to actually cure the issue and I put up with the error until my next re-install of Win7, which was not to long in the case of that system

Thanks for your reply.. It seems on searching there are 1000's of people with my problem with 1000's of 'solutions'.. I have been through almost every 'key' in the registry making it permissible to use..I have used with hope, all the available 0ffice removal tools...and fixits Yet I still see many 'red non permissible' keys in my registry.. I use registry workshop I am not sure which ones to change or leave...I see some office 12 stuff but I am not sure if Office 2010 needs those keys..etc..so its a sheer guess to what to remove or repair.. can I assume if a key is refusing permission it also can not be removed...if this is the case then is it safe to remove such keys ans would this add to the Office problems..I see Office stuff for 8, 11, 12, etc as well as Office14. I did the .pip key change I did the subincal reg changes in bulk.. and the 'noreg' trick. for each program ....non worked.. Looking for a magic wand please..

Unfortunately, I also went through every"fix" I could find, as you have, and the only thing that finally cured the problem was the fresh install.

I used to see a new "fix" online with other users singing it's praises, but there were always some users that found that the fix did not work, I would try the fix and find myself in the second group .

The only thing I can state that will solve this, in my experience, is the complete OS re-install which may not be practical for you at this time. The other thing is that I've found that this problem seems completely random with systems that look outwardly the same, as I've had other systems with similar software histories where this was not a problem.

As for the general edit of the registry keys when they are set with permissions so that you cannot edit them, they are normally critical keys and thus you must be careful in editing, sometimes you have to log in as the Hidden admin to achieve what you want, There is obviously some danger of trashing the system if you remove the wrong key. but If you back up your registry before any of these changes you can recover by use of the recovery console, although this is always an involved event

Only you can decide if the registry edit route is worth continued pursuing, or that the error is workable with, until your next re-install.

I wish you luck in whatever you decide and hope you find a workable solution, but I cannot provide the magic wand

Most of Newport seems to be closed down or on the point of closing - Cardiff appears to be booming however

Resolved- Office 2010 re-configures

Just an update. I used Registry workshop my preferred registry manipulation program. On the Roots section I realized when scrolling the program showed keys in red which were not able to be used or restricted. So I painstakingly went thro all the keys sort of section by section and gave permission to each keys..including keys that prevented other program form loading I found many older Nero keys etc...the problem was for me I did not know the office 2010 extensions required for correct program running so it was a guess..and I must admit with no ill effects so far ... I changed them all..took a long time but now..its good and fast. Just wish I was clever enough to make a vbs or reg file to do this..the ones on the web do not truly give permission to such keys. What would be useful is a list of Office 2010 keys that must be given or have permission in order to run correctly. It was amazing to see what the restricted key revealed when given permission.
