Hello

I have been struggling with BSOD's for a very long time now but it has only gotten worse, so it is now time for me to get rid of it.

PC info:
- Windows 7 64-bit full retail version
- CPU: Intel Core2 Quad Q9550 @ 2.83GHz
- Motherboard: Asus P5QL Pro
- RAM: DIMM1: 2x Corsair XMS2 CM2X2048-6400C5 2 GB DDR2-800 DDR2 SDRAM --- 4 GB total
- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 (896 MB)

I have just formatted my PC a couple of days ago and it still blue screens when i'm playing video games, so I guess it has to be hardware related.
I have been running memtest two times with 1 RAM stick in my pc each time and both came out clean with no errors whatsoever.

So what could it be then?
-Motherboard
-CPU
-Graphics card
-Hard drive
-PSU

Is there any software that can test these parts of my PC so I can narrow this down and find the hardware problem?

If anyone has an idea on how to fix this please let me know.

I am willing to spend money on new parts if they are broken.

Hi

Welcome to Seven Forums :)

Have a look at this post on how to collect the data required for the BSOD Squad - Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions
Also have a look at this thread from the Gaming Section of the forum - Tips on Troubleshooting Game Issue

Could you also list your current power supply model/make and the anti-virus/internet security suite that you have installed?

Thanks and regards

I wasn't sure if I should upload dump files since it is hardware related. But if it can give you information about my problem I will gladly do so! Since I just formatted my PC I only have 2 dump files. I will upload them in about an hour when i get home from work.

Ok Lets start here.

1-SPTD.SYS used in alcohol/daemon tools. It must be removed

ASACPI.sys Sun Mar 27 22:30:36 2005
The 2005 version of this driver is a known BSOD cause.
Please visit this link: ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support- download_item_mkt
Scroll down to the Utilities category, then scroll down to the "ATK0110 driver for WindowsXP/Vista/Windows 7 32&64-bit " (it's about the 8th item down).
Download and install it.
Go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers to check and make sure that the ASACPI.sys file is date stamped from 2009 or 2010 (NOT 2005).

2-HID/USB this is also causing problems.

Run system file check to verify and repair them

Hello and thanks for checking out the dump files!

1. That must have been poweriso then, that's what i used to burn Memtest to a dvd. It's uninstalled now.

2. I did that now and it didn't find any violations.

Recommend that you download and install Microsoft Essentials Security, be sure to update it and run a full-scan when complete. You can uninstall it after your issues have been resolved although it's not wise to be running without any anti-virus/anti-malware software unless you are an informed user.

Please carry out the other actions recommended by Ken:

  1. Update the driver
  2. Run the sfc/scan
Are you sure that you only have Power ISO on your PC?

Thanks for the reply.

I installed Essentials security. The reason I'm not using any anti-virus at the moment is because some of the reasons for my old crashes were because of that.

Also I already did what zigzag told me to and it didn't find anything during the sfc/scan and the driver is updated.

About the poweriso thing, yes I am pretty sure. I just formatted a couple of days ago and even after ONLY installing a game and a couple of necessary drivers it already blue screened. That's what makes me almost sure that it's a hardware problem.

While awaiting some of the BSOD Squad having a look at your dump file, could you try the following?

  1. Power down and check the physical connections for your hardware, especially your VGA - things get loose over time
  2. If applicable, disconnect all other external peripherals/equipment other than your keyboard and mouse
  3. Post a snip of your device manager - check if there are any yellow exclamation marks on any of the installed hardware
  4. Did the MSE full-scan come up clean?
Regards

Your .dmp file is showing a 0x124 general hardware fault, but references your mouse, as the cause of this crash... This could also be a problem with your USB controller/drivers.. Make sure that you have the latest versions installed, and for the time being, try using a generic mouse for troubleshooting purposes...

Tews, thank you very much for the in-depth reply.

When I try to update the USB hubs from device manager it keeps saying that it is up to date. So I will assume that they are the newest ones.

I guess I can try and find an old mouse with that green round thing in the end and then see if it helps.
