32-bit works fine, cant install 64-bit?

Hey all. First time poster, long time lurker!

Ive had my i5 rig running on XP pro for a bit and then decided to upgrade to win7 Ultimate. installed 32bit fine, decided to go to 64bit. Install gets all the way through then reboots (which im told will happen). once its rebooted, install gets about 80% of the way through and says 'Windows 7 cannot configure your hardware to complete the install' or something of the like. what gives?!

ps- the 64 bit install was on recently formatted drive!

First thing I would suggest is that you remove all non essential external hardware, (usb drives Etc), if present.

One other trick that has worked (more with vista than win7) is to remove one of your memory sticks for the install

Another thing that helps sometime is to wipe (secure erase) the entire Hard Disk Drive (HDD) and create a single 100GB partition to install Windows to; after you have made backups of anything you want to save from the HDD, have a look at this tutorial at the link below and be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.

Where did you get Win7? Did you burn the DVD yourself? Burn another using ImgBurn at 4x speed.

Or try USB flash stick install: Install UltraISO trial, open ISO on File tab, Write Image on Bootable Tab, Format, Write. Boot using one-time BIOS Boot menu.
