How Do I Find The URL For Internet RemoteDT

I have Win7 Pro x64 and can remote connect over my home network but will be going out of state and want to remote connect over the internet.

I Google but cannot seem to get the answer I need. Most searches show the home network method.

What do I do to find the exact address to type in from afar? I will have the same Win7 HP x64 laptop I use at home to remote connect.

There is one service I use all the time called LogMeIn (www.logmein.com). They have a free option that allows you to do basic remote sessions via the Internet using their secure servers. You install a piece of their software on the machine you wish to remote to via the Internet then login to your account from their Web site and your machine should be listed. They have a load of help there to get you started. It's fairly easy.

* Create an account
* Download the software to each machine you want to remote to via your control panel.
* Remote to each machine as needed via your control panel.

The paid version allows for more advanced tools like printer sharing and whatnot.

I think you need your WAN IP address for that. Just click on the link below.

Team Viewer works pretty well for that also.

Thanks, I am wondering if I use my external IP like I got at the link you provided 76.xx.xxx.xx or my internal 192.xx,xxx.x, and if I use https in front of them.

I would like to avoid a 3rd party if I can.

When I type the 76.,xxx.xx.xxx I get my router login so there my be a need for some kind of port forwarding there eh?

you can do this however unless you pay for a static IP address from your ISP you will eventually change IP and not be able to login remotely anylonger.


You will have to either :

1) use logmein (free)
2) pay for a static ip from your isp
3) use no-ip.com (installs a tool that assigns your ip to a dns name of your choice) you will then connect to the name



I recommend logmein because its FREE, very small footprint, and you can add multiple computers to your list of machines. For instance I have it installed on my home machines, my parents pc, and some work machines. I can access any of them anywhere I have internet access.

The software makes these settings and adjustments very obvious during the set up procedure. Just follow the set up procedure.

My ISP doesn't change my WAN IP address, it's always the same and I dont' have to pay extra but it's apparently not like that for everyone.

I highly doubt that you have a static IP if you are not paying for one. Every ISP i have ever dealt with offers static IP as a paid-for addition.

go to What Is My IP Address - Shows Your IP Address and write down the address. Then unplug your modem/router for at LEAST 2 hours. I would unplug it for a day to make sure you get a new IP.

Basically you are unplugging the modem so someone else who is rebooting their modem will pull your old IP, next time you power your modem back on it will grab a new ip from the ISP's pool.


Note: some internet packages include static IP, you may not know you are paying for it already.

Trust me bro it's static and I do not pay extra for it but it is the high end turbo road runner so maybe it comes with it, for what they charge it should come with all the bells and whistles.

I wasn't quoting you in case you misread that, just stating the facts for my personal network set up.

The Op should be using the same WAN IP unless he reboots his modem and I believe I helped him find his WAN IP which I'm pretty sure he was asking about.
