How to pin a prgm from "removable media" to TaskBar/Start menu?

If I mount a removeable media such as USB Stick or a TrueCrypt file volume (with rm option) then I can NOT pin prgms from these medias/drives to
the taskbar nor pin files to the Start menu.

Why?

Is there really no way to disable this No-Pin-Protection?

Under WinXP this worked without problems.

I dragged them to taskbar/startmenu or rightclick on the *.exe file in WinExplorer and select "Pin to TaskBar" or "Pin to startmenu".

Does that matter?

Yes it matters. What you'll probably have to do is create a shortcut on the desktop, pointing to the program on the external drive. Then, pin that shortcut to the bar. See if that works.

Hmm that works. But it is really weired.

Is there really no direct placment of shortcuts from removeable media to taskBar?

I know it sounds weird but you have to kind of trick the system in this case. You can't just point something directly to a device that Windows knows is removable. You have to point it to what it thinks is something that resides on the local drive (the shortcut on the desktop you created) and then point that to the removable device so that the system only cares about the shortcut itself and not what it's pointing to.

Hopefully that makes sense.
