465,000 New Users for Microsoft’s Cloud from the State University NY

Microsoft has inked a new major deal which will see almost half a million users transition to its Cloud offerings for organizations in the education sector.

The Redmond company revealed that the State University of New York (SUNY) will offer 465,000 of its students the possibility to leverage the Live@edu suite of online communications and collaboration solutions.

More importantly, are all 465,000 SUNY students looking to get involved or are many simply being forced to get involved?

I suppose, if MS lowers the price for their "cloud" offerings while keeping the price high for localized solutions, eventually, many will be forced to the cloud. Just watch out for the back side of that potential equation.

MS already have ads airing in AUS about the 'cloud' for one of their apps. Name brand intoroduction stratergy.

There is a serious push for this cloud business already. Early days, but it the 'idea' is being pushed hard.

Google? Hard to say what thier part will be. Ad revenue most likely.

Apple? $$$ Tier 1 apps.

Actually there are a few campus' that have upwards of 15 to 25 k students a year. You have to remember they are talking vo-tech, part time, and others beside the normal every day students going for B. A.s, etc.

Think what California and Florida colleges would be like as to student population. . .a cloud dream come true. . .:p

I personally dislike this whole "Cloud" thing, the old school OS is better for many reasons:
1) The OS is customizable and expresses YOU
2) The OS doesn't put your applications/ect. on an open market
3) If MS's servers go down, what happens to your work?

And possibly a list of 50 or more problems that Cloud has, but I don't feel like typing up a large list.
