BSOD 7E w/ AMD 462, 3 gb ram and nforce2 ultra chipset

I've been trying to load win 7 32 bit on a Shuttle mobo AN35N Ultra that has a 462 AMD cpu, three 1 gb dimms and nivida nforce2 ultra 400 chip set for 3 days (I'm retired) and on the first reboot of win7 I get a 0x0000007e BSOD. I've searched here and have not found a solution. Googling various senarios I found many with different brands of mobo's with this exact hardware setup having the exact problem. This chipset supports 3 dimm slots for a max total of 3 gb. I found on a ASUS forum that taking the 3rd 1 gb chip out win7 will load sucessfully. Then down loading new drivers the third dimm will work. I don't have the time this morning to try it but want to throw it out for what it may be worth. Here's the ASUS forum thread. Update! Windows 7 lives

Per the instructions from the link I posted above I removed onestick of ram from my MoBo after consulting the manual to retain DDR functionally.

This was a everytime thing on the first reboot of Win7 BSOD, not a random BSODwhen doing a clean install.
By far the biggest percentage of people with stop code 0x0000007e had this combination of hardware.

Windows 7 home premimum 32 bit has loaded perfectly using two 1 gb dimms.

This PC is used by my grand kids, ages 7 and 9, for online educational site for homework so 2 gb of ram is plenty. It's a workaround but it works. The board worked well with 3 gb under XP. I bought a 3 PC family license and this is the third PC. I would not have bought win7 for this pc alone.

I've gone over all the links and I could not find any that applied. This problem is directly related to the Nvidia nforce2 Ultra chip set, AMD 462 cpu and with all three dimm slots populated with 1 gb dimms. My system board is a MSI but Asus and other brands using this combinations have this problem.

I apperciate your help but I'm a retired computer tech and don't ask for help untill I've identified the problem. System components other then listed are basic and ruled out as part of the problem. Two sata connect drives, 2 PATA connected DVD/DVD burner. video card is Geforec 6200

I'm just looking for someone with this cpu, chipset and dimm combination has that may have found a way to get all 3 gm of memory to operate. In all cases the mobo makers have dropped support for these older boards with updated bios and drivers.


This two year old thread here worked. I have the third dimm installed and working using XP Ver 5.10 drivers. Follow the link in the thread. Google found the thread, not the search function. For some reason I can't link to it but a search for this title should bring it up.
