I have 3 computers on a wi-fi home network. The network is secured wpk-2. Two are laptops (having replaced an old desktop with a less old laptop). All are running Win 7 Home Premium. Two use Norton Internet Security 2010, and the recently added laptop uses AVG Antivirus 2011. All are in the same workgroup, and all are in the Homegroup, and the folder I wish to access on each of them is shared with full read/write permission to the Homegroup. Password protected sharing is off, and I have disabled firewalls in security programs.Since adding the new computer, when I try to access the shared folders across the network, I get the error, “you do not have permission to access \\COMPUTER NAME\FOLDER NAME. Contact network administrator…” I have tried every solution I can find in techie forums. What’s the deal? :sarc:

Need some clarification. Are you using workgroup, or homegroup for networking?

Homegroup uses IPv6, workgroup IPv4. IPv6 sometimes has issues with sharing and connectivity on some systems

A workaround is to create a new connection using "work" workgroup.

Hi Ken - thanks for the reply. One of the Win7 diaganostics messages says to make sure that all computers are in the same workgroup (they were). But just to make sure, I created an entirely new workgroup, and made sure all three were in it.

I am "sharing" via the Homegroup, with full read/write permissions.
