Media Center Installed on Networked External Drive?

Hi all. I have a Windows 7 pc with an xbox 360 extender. Just bought the xbox and had no idea about media center. I have a 500gb external drive plugged into my Asus rt-n16 router which is networked and holds all my media files. I have the network folder added and everything works well.

I was wondering if there was a way to pull the PC out of the loop. Somehow install the media center directly on my external networked drive so I wouldn't have to turn on my PC to use Media Center. I would turn on the xbox and it would connect directly with the network drive. I can do this without media center by just going to MyVideos in the xbox menu and finding my external drive connected to the router. I just don't have the amazing UI offered in Media Center.

I'm really new to Media Center - 6 hours or so. Let me know your thoughts.

In short the answer is no, you need a PC to use WMC on an extender.
