Not exactly sure what you mean by max connections. If you give us some more info we might be able to help you more. You could also fill in "system specs" in user CP

Thanks. I have 10+ XP Pro computers connected via a gigabit switch as a workgroup. As XP Pro limitation, some of my computers have to log-off in order to maintain 10-connections at the time. I think if I switch my home server to Vista ultimate, my connections will be limted to 25 (please correct me if I am wrong). However, I think I might want to wait a little longer for Win 7.
So back to my OP, how many numbers of connections allowed to Win7 (Simple, Basic, Ultimate, etc)?
IMO, MS limit number of connection to XP Pro becuase they want to force pple to upgrade to Win 2000. They might do the same with Win 7.

Im not sure that the limit is Xp's. I have workgroups with 100+ users logged in simul. I wonder if its not server lic limit. the subnet Im talking abt has a license for 500 and given its only 100MB sub I doubt that more could log on with substantial slowdown. Maybe an MVP could give us the specs

Huh...... I am happy that I might be totally wrong. But I got the following error all the time.
Microsoft Windows Network: No more connections can be made to this remote computer at this time because there are already as many connections as the computer can accept.
I did google and think that 10 might be its magic number.

Now I have learned that we can go more than 100 without migrating from XP Pro

Server (Shared Folders PC) = SP2
Clients = SP1 or SP2
If it can be fixed, I am happy to upgrade all to SP2 or SP3. Eventhough in 2008 this is still the problem. TIA

What about Drive Mapping to the shared folder, instead of just marking the folder as shared?

I have 12 xp machines SP2 & SP3 accessing my business programs located on C:\Visual_Business on 1 of the xp machines via drive mapping. Have had all 12 logged in & running the program & reading & writing data to the main data files stored there. I have not tested my business program with a Win7 machine yet, as I have not checked with my software vendor to see if it is compatable yet. Hope this info helps you.
