Windows 7 bld7000 has vista boot screen!

Status

hello, I guess not many of you have come up with this weird problem.
I have installed Windows 7 build 7000 in a couple of PCs , everything fine.

I have installed it on a netbook (LG X110, its the same with MSI WIND U100), and upon boot, the boot screen is the old Vista animated boot screen, with the green bar loader at the bottom. No new W7 boot screen.

I guess it has to do with the screen size of LG X110 (10") which also causes screen detection issues in other OS's (e.g. Backtrack 3), but is there an option where I can FORCE the resolution/screen size so that it will show the correct boot screen??

Thank u all,

Regards,

Limneos

Tried everything in msconfig.

Currently, no boxes are ticked. the "noguiboot" gives a blank, black screen while booting, besides, noguiboot is a static image but I have animated logo , only the old vista one. It's some sort of backward compatibility with some screen resolutions or something.

Tried a few bcdedit options, (novesa on/off etc) , but I doubt they are there for this reason :p

Weird...what process detects the video screen size (80x25 etc) at startup??? Must be a setting there, but I've never heard of such thing on Windows XP, Vista etc. :(

Interesting

I just tried a few different flags (no gui / base OS boot information) and none made any difference. They all showed the animated boot logo

Don't know, sorry.

yeah, weird indeed...I looked up the winload.exe.mui with Resource Hacker to find any strings related to the resolution, but nothing...

I guess I'll wait for an official solution to this minor annoyance.

Thanks for the tries.

Hi limneos

I did experience this myself at the start when 6956 was released (sorry Escaped :p ),
what happened with me was I installed 6801 x86 dual boot with Vista and had both working fine with their respective boot screens

I then decided to add 6956 which installed fine and booted with it's own boot screen

For some reason decided to edit the BCD with easybcd from within vista and changed the primary OS to vista.

From that point onwards all three OS's booted using the Vista Green bar boot screen.

this may be totally unrelated to your issue, but who knows

I'd be very interested to know if you find a solution to this "problem" as I have the exact same issue with Win7 on my Lenovo s10 netbook.

Just worked out why W7 boot logo didn't change. It applied all the changes to Vista instead.

Just booted into Vista and was greeted by OS information and a base video desktop.

Silly of me to think changes made in one OS wouldn't affect the other

The intertwining of settings between Vista and 7 is a bit of a PITA.

My guess limneos, is that the Vista settings are over-riding 7's

I got exactly that screen after doing a startup repair on 6801. For a second, I thought I'd booted into Vista by mistake - but after the green bars , there was 6801.

Well, the funny/strange thing for me is that I don't dual boot - I only have Win7 on my Netbook...

Is there a setting a should try?

Thank you Barman and smarteyball, your posts were helpful to understand a few possibly related reason, however on this notebook there was a clean install of Windows 7, 6801 and 6956 ... I thought I had put 7000, i'm upgraded now to 7000 from 6956 , but I still get the Vista boot screen.

I have never put Vista on this LG, it came with XP preinstalled, plus I did clean install of Win7 but still the same boot screen.

I must say that when I boot with USB stick to Backtrack, instead of automatically booting, it stops and asks me to define the lines of the screen because autodetect fails. I select 80x25,80x50 etc and it works.
This indicates that the screen size is weird to some OSes.Perhaps it has to do with that, but I still can't figure this out.I guess if it's a bug, there must be a way to FORCE it, but how? winload.exe has more that one bootscreens hidden in it???

Regards

It's official...The new boot screen needs 1024x768 screen capabilities , but LG X110 and MSI WIND (same thing) have a 1024x600 screen in which the new boot screen is impossible to show. You can see it only if u connect an external monitor..

as it is said here:
Msi Wind Forums • View topic - Windows 7 6956 new bootscreen

Hmmm...how can we tamper with that? :D

Maybe with a BIOS update this could be fixed. Some laptop BIOSs have screen stretch or false resolution report options.

Ah, that explains it. I will attach my netbook to a external screen just to verify this. A bit strange that MS put in that resolution "restriction", not that it's the end of the world but a new boot screen makes me feel that I have something new and fresh...
