vertical colored lines- when installing other programs

i have ran across this problem a few times now... when i go to install different programs such as adobe reader, the progream executes n produces multi-colored vertical lines across my whole screen. i have to close my laptop n wait for it to go into standby mode before i can re-open it, which then allows me to access my welcome screen. it only happens with some .exe progams. it has happened with other programs, not just the adobe reader. any ideas?

i just tried to install the windows 32bit debugging tools n got the multi-colred vertical lines again.

Can you please post your specs?

My first thought is your graphics card drivers. Have you updated them?

Does the same thing occur in safe mode? This can be a sign of overheating/corrupt driver
