IE9 How do I determine if I'm in Compatibility Mode?

I have the new 64 bit version.

On some sites, IE 9 automatically comes up with the symbol for compatibility mode. On some it's sort of grey color but if I click on it, the icon turns blue.

On other sites it does not come up with any icon, such as this site, so I assume this is fully compatible with IE9.

Do I have any option on sites that the symbol comes up (grey color)? e.g. on the Dell users forum it comes up with the grey color symbol. I can click on it and it turns blue color but it doesn't seem to make any difference. I would like to try the Dell forum in the native IE9 mode but do not see any way to do this.

The only thing I can tell you is to drop into tools, and have a closer look at the compatibility view settings. I am personally not the biggest fan of IE so that's about all I have for you.

When the compatibility mode symbol turns blue, it means you're running in compatibility mode. Now if you hit F12, you can see "Browser mode: ie9 compat view" in the top bar of the window that comes up at the bottom of the screen. If you click on the blue symbol, it'll turn grey and the page will refresh. After it has refreshed and you hit F12 again, you'll see "Browser mode: ie9" in the bottom window.

Open IE click tools. Go down list to Compatability View settings and click.

New window as below check all three boxes at bottom. Click Close.
This will give you comp view on all pages automatically.

I don't believe IE 9 has Compatibility view settings the way it was in IE 8. You must press F12 to see what mode a site is in as Bill2 stated.

Mike, I appologize, I was looking in the wrong place. Tools is not visible by default.

However, how could I know that you never used IE 8 or that the snip was from IE 9 RC?

The discussion was IE9 so I posted 9. Never thought about someone wondering if it was from IE8.

Tools is visible by default. It is in both lines if Command Bar is checked.

At least it is in mine as you can see.
