The twelfth Beta development milestone of Firefox 4.0 also appears to be the last before the next generation of the open source browser graduates to Release Candidate stage.

Following the release of Firefox 4.0 Beta 11 Mozilla revealed that although it was planning to release no mere than a dozen Betas, a beta 13 release was also possible, in the eventuality that it couldn’t have dealt with all the bugs still blocking the browser from moving forward to RC.

However, the open source browser vendor managed to deal with some of the blockers already, and Mike Beltzner, Mozilla's Director of Firefox, noted that the first Release Candidate of Firefox 4.0 could follow the Beta 12 Build.

Doesn't there naturally come a point when another beta just begs the question.....how far away was this product from prime time? I'm an ardent firefox user...and am using 3.6 myself. 12 betas of version 4....really??????

I am using the 64-bit builds of Firefox 4.0 beta - or nightly builds as they are called (they do keep updating themselves almost daily). I see no issues at all. It's stable and it correctly shows every site I go to. I am not sure why do they keep it beta still, however, they did add a new feature lately - the "disable tracking" setting.

My hope is, they will still build the RC in 64-bit - there have been reports that no official (final) 64-bit version of Firefox 4.0 is forthcoming. I will not however use the 32-bit version anymore - call me stubborn, but I am running a 64-bit OS and prefer 64-bit apps unless they are absolutely unavailable. A 64-bit browser is available - IE. Thus no reason for me to use 32-bit Firefox.

Well Beta 10 still had quite a few bugs, some of which were frankly annoying. (random hangs, for no apparent reason, even on text only pages for one thing, flash video's going weird on full screen for another are the two I noticed and reported.) Don't forget, it's probably the biggest overhaul firefox has had for a long time.

Very glad that beta 11 has brought back the status bar though.
