Am I eligible for a free upgrade to Win 7?

I purchased an OEM version of Vista Home Premium 64-bit on June 26 and activated it that day. Does this make me eligible for a free upgrade to Windows 7? If so, how do I go about getting it? Thanks!

from what I've read, you have to get it from the manufacturer of the PC you bought that had it on it. You may want to call them and inquire about it. But according to the dates microsoft has supplied, you *should* be elligable

There was no manufacturer. I bought all of the parts and built it myself, and loaded Vista onto it. So I am trying to find out if I am still eligible for an upgrade.

Where did you buy the vista disk from? was it a retailer or did you get it online?

EDIT- got this from the microsoft website-

Essential details: When you buy Windows Vista Home Premium, Business, or Ultimate either as a packaged product or on a qualifying PC you can get a comparable upgrade version of Windows 7 after it’s generally available on October 22, 2009. Qualifying PCs, offer details, and product delivery methods will vary by manufacturer, so check their sites for specifics. If you buy a packaged copy of Windows Vista you can order your upgrade from Microsoft. The Windows 7 Upgrade Option program runs from June 26, 2009 through January 31, 2010. However, individual PC manufacturers may choose to offer the option for a shorter period. For full details, see the FAQ.

So you may be qualified if you bought it after june 26. Not sure if activation date counts. Heres the link to the page = http://www.microsoft.com/windows/buy/offers/upgrade.aspx

EDIT- Go here and fill out the form, it will tell you whether or not your good to go https://om2.one.microsoft.com/opa/V...-ac70-438f-9304-4bd05de66415&LocaleCode=en-us

"Similarly, in some markets, retail packaged Windows Vista software products (sold separately from PCs) may also qualify for an upgrade to the equivalent Windows 7 product."

"If you can’t tell whether a PC or software program qualifies based on the package or associated marketing material, please consult your retailer or PC manufacturer to see if it is included in the program."

Not every packaged version of Vista from every retailer would qualify for free upgrade, and it wouldn't surprise me if OEM versions in particular were left out.

You'd need to contact where you purchased Vista from, but if it was included, I believe you're supposed to get some kind of upgrade coupon from them with a code on it.

It actually wouldn't surprise me if you're one of those who don't qualify. The only packaged versions of Vista that are guaranteed to qualify are those sold directly by Microsoft.

Yes, it certainly is, but let's not forget that he had to pay for Vista too. :) Too bad they won't let you download it for free to save on shipping. Now that really would be awesome.
