Media Player Classic losing settings

Hello everyone.

I use Media Player Classic Home Cinema 32bit version on 64 bit Win 7 RC1. Quite often, MPCHC loses key settings between sessions. I keep them in ini file in program files directory together with executable file.

What happens is this... I set up keys to suit my needs and they work between couple of sessions, and then suddenly when starting up MPCHC, all keys are reset to their default settings with no visible cause. It's quite annoying having to change all the keys every couple of days as there are a lot of key settings in MPCHC.

Anyone else having these problems?

i use it every day on 7229 x86, settings saved to INI, and i never have any problems.

what's your reason for using the INI instead of the registry to store this information? do your key setting stick if you turn off the 'save settings to INI' checkbox?

I use INI file because I prefer portable apps over ones that store settings to registry.

I never had any problems with storing settings to INI file up until Win7.

The weird thing is that MPCHC is losing only key settings. Other settings are always left intact.

SOLVED

SOLUTION:
1. right click mplayerc. Hit "Run as administrator".
2. Set all of your settings.
3. Close the app and reopen. Your settings are saved!

The issue is that mplayerc, keeping its settings in an ini, does not have permissions to alter that ini. When you close the ini it loses all it tried to write. From now on, run mplayer as administrator when you want to permanently alter a setting (or set it to always run as administrator under right click, properties, compatibility, always run as administrator, though then you'll get UAC warnings every time you run it).

It's because ini files are officially no longer supported, I suppose.

Yes.
But if you start Media Player as administrator, you won't be able to
drag and drop files to the playlist. for example

and if you do not start it with administrator rights, it won't save your playlist too..
if you start it with the rights, it won't change the playlist, it is a trap..

you need to add write rights to the users - instead of running it as administrator.
on the security tab of the mpc-hc.exe
