Gateway USB Keyboard Model SK-9925

when i first upgraded to 7, the keyboard worked fine including multimedia functions (volume/mute/skip + many more) i have come to rely on them..all of a sudden last week it just stopped working (multimedia functions) rest of keys work. I have tried uninstalling/ reinstalling driver..no luck. why would this happen?

Do you have another keyboard you can try to see if that is the problem?
Try another USB port.
Check all your driver's to make sure they are updated. Go to manufactures site for the upgrades.
