Hey, this problem has been giving me a headache for days and a million Google searches later: I downloaded subtitles that are Russian (.srt), however when I open up the video file in Windows Media Player or VLC the subtitles are displaying as gibirish, like this: "Êîðîëü Ãåîðã Ïÿòûé ïðàâèò áîëåå ÷åì ÷åòâåðòüþ íàñåëåíèÿ çåìíîãî øàðà." When I open up the .srt file in notepad, the gibberish is still there:

"1
00:00:26,054 --> 00:00:31,117
1925 ãîä.
Êîðîëü Ãåîðã Ïÿòûé ïðàâèò áîëåå ÷åì ÷åòâåðòüþ íàñåëåíèÿ çåìíîãî øàðà."

Note sure what to do :'(?

I made sure that Russian language pack is chosen in the regional control panel. And the subtitles are encoded as UTF-8. Finally, I have tried 3 different subtitles that I could find and they're all the same, gibberish.

What do? Help?

Thanks a lot.

Tl;dr: Russian subtitles displaying as gibberish, help?

I'm using GOM Player. In GOM I do it on this way:
Preferences->Subtitle->Others->Code Page: Cyrillic.
I was searching to the internet for VLC and found this:
VLC -> Preferences -> Input/Codecs -> Subtitles -> Subtitles text encoding -> CP1251.This is for bulgarian subtitles.
for the 0.8.6d version i'm using, the encoding options is under:
VLC -> Preferences -> Input/Codecs -> Other Codecs -> Subtitles -> Subtitles text encoding
