OK,

I have a 2009 Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop. The other day, I tried to boot windows 7 and it gave me the error: Corrupted registry. I said no biggie, just format and re-install windows. I did that, and it will boot once every 50 tries or so.

When it does boot, it is as slow as hell. How do i get it to work normally again??? I REALLY need it tomarrow. Please help.

Sounds like there was still some corrupted files left on the HDD. Give Parted Magic a try and re install. Info on how to use Parted Magic here

Well, while I was formatting from the Windows install disk, it did give me an error from formatting, but I just ignored and went on. Should I just take it into the shop tomarrow and have them take a look at it?

I would use Parted Magic first. It will clean up anything left behind on the HDD.

OK, I just finished running windows diagnostics on it, and it returned an error.
It said that it could not find the boot OS loader.
What should I do now?

I think there may be enough corruption that you just need to wipe the HDD with a utility as I have mentioned and preform a clean install. Sometimes that is the only way.

Hi heleonardman, I know it's a big pain, buuut I think nitroman84's advice to use Partition Magic is the way to go. This way you'll start from a drive that is basically like new and completely blank. Things should go well for you.:D

NOTE: I had the same problem with an XP reinstall once and had to reformat/repartition before it would "take". It worked fine afterwards. Good luck!:geek:

Another thing to consider is that you have a bad HDD too.

Formatting erases nothing and leaves infected or corrupt code on the HD. Did you wipe the HD as suggested?

I cannot do the suggested actions because I have no access to a CD burner or CD's besides my malfunctioning laptop. It works now, only if I update the drivers it will not boot because of bad drivers. I am preforming a sys restore right now and will fix drivers and see if that helps.

What is the exact problem now after reporting you got a good install?

What drivers are you trying to update? The Win7 installer is mostly driver-complete, with newer arriving quickly via optional Windows Updates. You only need to import drivers missing in the Device Manager. This is not XP.

Formatting erases nothing and leaves infected or corrupt code on the HD. Did you wipe the HD as suggested?

Formatting, even a quick format will not leave anything that could possibly affect the operating system. In fact, the operating system cannot access files on a formatted (even quick) volume without some type of forensic software. The only exception to this is the boot sector.

Which is why we suggest wiping the HD, solving a big percentage of the hundreds of install failures we help with here which were only formatted.

I also would not want to leave infected code on the HD at all without overwriting it. But it is to clean the boot sector which is nearing best practice.

Should I re-install and once I get windows up again should I download ALL drivers to everything? Will that solve my problem? I have no way at all to wipe my HD, only format, delete partitions, and create new partitions via the windows install disk.
