No sound (High definition audio device)

Sound works on Win XP (multibooted) but not on Win 7 RC1.
I do not know which sound card my computer is using.
I have a Samsung Sens Q35 laptop.
When I click on the sound icon on the tray on the bottom right, the only device that is listed is Digital Audio (S/PDIF)
When I go to the device manager, it says High Definition Audio Device.
It's version 6.1.7100.0

Me too

I am having the exact same problem.

Works fine in XP, boot into 7 and it detects a high definition audio device and automatically installs. But the only audio device selectable is a Digital audio S/PDIF and I'm sure i don't have the connections/speakers for that.

The mixer is showing sounds coming through but I don't have a digital decoder (not sure if my terminology is correct)

Any solutions/ similar problems ? I've been searching for about a week with no luck.

So far i've tried installing the drivers that came with the mobo, the latest drivers for vista/windows x64 and disabling enabling uninstalling. Even going to the bios and searching for audio options in there (only able to set HD Audio to Auto or Disable)

please help

This is interesting. My friend installed a Win 7 RC with an X-Fi XtremeAudio and he too, only gets the SPDIF as an output device, nothing else.

In order to get his sound card working, he has to install Vista, then upgrade to the Win 7 RC. After that, it works.

Try switching from s/pdif in sound control properties to speakers as the default playback device. You can also right click on the speakers icon and select "show disabled devices" which may allow to see more options.

I've fixed my problem.

I knew I needed to select speakers instead of S/PDIF but there was no option for speakers. So after a long process of trying every driver for my motherboard I could find Including the latest ones from the realtek website I decided to try the

High definition Audio codecs
which can be found here Realtek

after installing this I was able to select speaker and my sound works fine.

I hope this works for you. Now I've got some boot problems to solve...
