Graphics Issue

I don't really know what the issue is, that is why my title is so vague.

I'll do my best to describe what the symptoms are.

Ok, whenever I try to open certain apps like WEI, try to change my resolution, or even just attempt to open an image file(.jpg, etc), my screen seems to just go crazy(for lack of better words)...

I tried to get a prt. scr. of it; I had to use hot keys to paste it into paint and save it because I couldn't see what I was doing at the time. When I restarted(the only way to get back to a normal screen) I opened up the image in paint(becuase I can't open them normally, my screen will screw up again) the image appeared as if nothing was wrong.

So I had to bust out the digital camera to get a visual of it for you guys.

The screen flashes when it happens, not to black, just like a dim-light very rappid flashing.

Another thing I noticed is that, it says my resolution is set to 1680 x 1050, however, my desktop icons and what not are kinda big, as if the resolution was really around 1280 x 768.

I've tested with diff monitors, moved my gpu to my mobos second pci slot, and I have the latest 186.18 64bit w7 driver, and nothing seems to have any effect on it. I've dual booted xp and 7; xp is fine. I've tried just having 7 installed and it makes no diff.

Sorry if this is a little long-winded, I just want to give u as much info as I can, so I can get this problem solved. If u want to direct me to another section, where I could get more help, plz do. And if u need my specs just ask, their also in my profile.

Hi
This is a pretty dumb idea but. two things made the lightbulb on my head go on. PRNTSCRN displayed normally, because that is what the vid card sent to the monitor. the second lightbulb moment is it might be a cable. vid card semds good monitor displays bad only thing in between is the monitor cable

do you have another cable to check it with?

I've plugged an entirely different monitor in, different cable, but same problem.

My card also has 2 ports for monitors and I've tried them both same problem.

Have you tried moving the card to another pci slot

Yes, but same problem. However, when I first start up windows after moving the card, windows automatically sees my card and installs the drivers, and then prompts me to restart.

If I don't restart I can change my resolution, however I can't do much else, and the resolution will only go up to 1280 x 768.

Was this a clean install?

HI woogyt, remove the video card and check if the symptoms appear in onboard video as well. I suspect its your video card.

Sorry for the wait on my response, I was out getting some fireworks.

Ok, so I tried switching my theme to "Windows 7 Basic" restarted, and then attempted to change my resolution... but no luck... didn't have any effect on it. I restarted and tried a few more things, openning images, but same problem.

HI woogyt, remove the video card and check if the symptoms appear in onboard video as well. I suspect its your video card.

I'm not quite sure how to say this but it seems my mobo only has out port for a monitor plug ... yeah, I know it sounds weird hehe, it has a male end on the mobo, not a female end.

I'm ganna dig around my computer parts storage boxes and try to find my old graphics card, maybe rule out the graphics card and narrow it down to a mobo driver issue or something.

I was worried about my mobo tho, It's an ASUS m2n-sli deluxe. w7 seems to have found all the drivers for it automatically, however when I try to find vista drivers for it myself, I'm not quite sure what ones to get, because a few of them are beta drivers only.

EDIT: scratch that idea, none of the cards I found would fit the pci slots on the buss.

However I could go "barrow" the card in the family computer. keep feeding me Ideas/info and I'll work on doing that

thanks for the help guys, and happy 4th
