Not enough resources for Mobility Radeon X1400 after RAM upgrade

Hi!

I've been running Windows 7 Professional 64bit on a LG laptop with Mobility Radeon X1400 graphics with no problems. I went from 2GB RAM (2 x 1GB) to 3 (1 x 2GB, 1 x 1GB) two weeks ago and everything went on working without a hitch.

Now, I've just tried to upgrade from 3GB to 4 (2 x 2) and on reboot, Windows switched to 640X480 resolution, 16 color mode (and no way to change it). I checked the device manager and it says that there are "Not enough resources" for the X1400.

The memory module isn't the problem and when I boot Ubuntu, everything works as it should. The system sees the 4GB in both Windows and Ubuntu.

Would anyone have an idea of what causes this problem and what I can do to solve it?

Thanks!

Key question here is; are they the same make and brand and have the same timings. This is commonly referred to matched pairs. If they are not this is the type of issue that can and do happen. The only solution I know of is to get matched pairs.

Hi Bass,

The modules are identical with the exception that they didn't come in the same package. I didn't think this would be an issue as I didn't have any problems when I was running 2 X 1GB modules that didn't come packaged together either. And I still didn't have issues when I swapped one of the 1GB for a 2GB module. And no problems when I boot the same laptop under Ubuntu with the 4GB.
