I recently reinstalled Windows 7 Ultimate Edition. I formated my drive. I then made a partition (C) roughly 12GB so it would fit Win7 and I would install everything to the 300gb partition (D)...

But i've hit a bit of a road block. There are 60MB left on the first partition... and I guess regardless when things get installed, they need to put folders into the system folders

Like Microsoft office 2010... I'm trying to install it to my D drive but it's telling me my C drive has no room...

What are my options? :/

Enlarge the C partition. Most people use 40 or 60 minimum.

Give the system partition about 80GB

Okay, I've downloaded it. I'm a bit confused. I have the program up and running. I don't have any unallocated space... do I need some? My D partition has 250 free GB... Can I transfer that over some how?

If you want to enlarge C with Disk Management,

1. Save everything from D to an external drive.
2. Then right click on D and delete the volume to get unallocated space.
3. Right click on C and extend it to at least 50GB
4. Right click on the remaining unallocated space and define a new D partition
5. Move the saved data back to D

That is the easiest way to do it. Else you will need another program like Partition Wizard. But even then I would first backup the data on D for safety reasons.

Yes you need some unallocated space.

Yes, you effectively transfer from one partition to another.

Haven't use PW in a while. Probably you shrink D and give the new space to C. It's easy to operate.

I used PW and changed my D drive to 200GB so I now have 50 free unallocated space..

How I merge the C drive with this unallocated space now?

Regardless what you do, backup your data from D first. Last time I used PW, I lost 3 whole partitions - it was, of course, my fault. But it is easy to make a mistake. Fortunatey I had an image of everything.

I still think it would be easier for you to use Disk Management as described above.

I don't have an external handy ... so that option isn't very realistic.

I see that with this PW program I can only merge if I pay...

If you have no external disk, you can do another trick. Before I can give you the procedure, tell me how much data you have on D. It would be extremely dangerous to work on a partition without saving the data first - unless you do not care about your data.

I tried to burn the bootable disk... but it wouldn't run.

I burned it through WIN7's dvd burner, another thing is I really couldn't figure out which file I should be burning :P

OK, here is what I suggest. Problem that we have to work around a restriction of Disk Management which can only extend a partition if the freespace is directly to the right of the partition. Now do this - it looks like a lot but each step takes only a couple of minutes.

1. Open Disk Management - Type disk management into Start/search and it will show up.

2. Since you have already shrunk 50GB from D, use this unallocated space to define a new partition E. Right click un the unallocated space and create partition. The wizard will tell you the steps.

3. Move your data from D to E

4. Right click on D and delete volume

5. Right click on C and extend volume - add about 40GBs. The wizard will guide you.

6. Now you have remaining unallocated space. Right click on that and create partition - we will recreate D using all the unallocated space.

7. move your data back from E to D.

8. Delete volume E - by now you should be a pro (LOL)

9. Right click on D and extend with the free space gaines from the deleted E.

10. You are all set - print this instruction out, then you can follow it easily. And buy an external disk. Without it, you have only half a computer.

Currently moving everything over to E.

What's the reason I can't just delete the E drive and use that unallocated space to merge with C? I noticed I couldn't do that... why will I be able to do that with D?

Disk Management will let you expand a partition into unallocated space only if that unallocated space is immediately to the right of the partition to be enlarged.

Directly to the right of my C drive is SYSTEM RESERVE which is 100mb... is that going to be an issue
