Solved Wanting to only share one printer and no files in Homegroup

Hi, finally I have my Home Group up and running. I have 2 PC's on it and wanting to only share one printer, no files. The printer is physically connected to PC1 and PC2 is able to print to it, so the intent worked.

In the Home Group sharing settings I have only printers checked to share. The problem is PC2 can see and open nearly ALL files and folders on PC1. PC1 cannot see the same on PC2.

When I open the Home Group on either PC it says there are no Home Group computers avilable, nor does PC2 have the shared printer listed. What I want is to remove the ability of PC2 seeing PC1's folders. Any help would be nice.

EDIT: I have a wired Linksys BEFSX-41 router with a Bluray player connected as well.

Hi Britton30,

The only way that you may share your printer in the network and not shared the files will be thru a Print Server or if your printer has an integrated network adapter. Plug the Print Server or the Printer itself in your Router's LAN Port or Network Switch then it shd assign an IP Address and can be accessible from your network.

Here are my configs. It says I can not share files but share a printer. all the shared files are listed as not shared. If I need a print server, why does one PC share files and the other does not?

Thanks for the snap shots. Is your Network on Private or Home and not Public? Make sure it's not in Public.

Although Windows 7 lets you share resources, sometimes it doesn't work well, that's why I have recommended a Print Server right away, hassle free too.

We can try troubleshooting the computers and see what's up with them.
Try creating 2 different User Names with Passwords on both computers.

From PC1, try this recommendation:

Right click on My Computer, select Manage, expand System Tools, Shared Folders, locate C$, right click on it and choose Disconnect. You might need to log off on both computers then log back on then try accessing the files again.

Tried that and it said IPC C$ was created for administrative purposes and cannot be deleted. Is it possible to completely delete the Home Group and start over?

Drop Homegroup and switch to Workgroup. Then sharing works like it did in XP.

Err, how do I do that? I've not used sharing in XP and I'm a newbie at doing it with Win7.

I'm glad it's working. Some more information that will give you a lot of information is built into Windows 7. Help and Support and type in Home Group/Work Group/ Sharing folders ect. One at a time of course. Now this doesn't mean don't come here for help it's just a little added information that can be handy.

I went to the network/shares and chose to UNshare my C\: and that fixed it.

@2XG, it was the link you provided which got me thinking...finally.
