I got a virus/maleware last week and have done a few clean installs of Windows 7 and when I go online I always get the black screen of death...can't do anything but turn it off. (Gateway 64bit)

Can't find any solutions and this is my last hope before I go out an buy a mac that I really can't afford.

Hope someone can help....please!!!

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Your problem may be caused by many things.

* Did you receive any blue screen errors using the computer?
* Are you pushing your computer hard? {gaming, overclocking etc} It could very well be overheating.
* Did you check in Event Viewer for errors?
Note any with a red mark in Application & System.

Thanks for the feedback.

I'm not getting any blue screens only black.

Not doing any gaming or using it any harder than I ever have.

I noticed it was crashing when I had my wireless mouse plugged in, so I replaced my bluetooth driver and my VGA driver and that has cut down on crashes, but I've still have had 3 crashes the past 24 hours.

I did pull up the event view but don't know how to use it.

Here's what I got in the error log:

Application Error Event Id: 1000 Task Cat.:100

System - Critical - Source: Kernal Power ID: 41 Cat: (63)

Thanks again for your help.

Black Screen of Death 10-15 times a day

Got a virus/maleware last week, did a clean install of Windows 7. Started crashing (BSOD) when I plugged in my wireless mouse...updated all my drivers except Wireless LAN and Touchpad (Gateway has multiple drivers and I'm not sure which one to download).

And now I'm getting the Black SOD 10-15 times a day, usually when I'm online or running photoshop.

- 64-bit
- Originally had Windows 7 on system
- Now has a full retail version

- hardware is 1 1/2 years old
- Just did clean install of Windows 7 last week

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Pete
