Download Folder Icon

Hi,

My download folder icon is not in sync. It's still showing a preview of a download which I don't have anymore (a mp3). How can I fix this?

If it bothers you so much, simply clear/rebuild your icon cache. That should do the trick.

Hello Dutchcoffee,

See if clearing the thumbnail cache to reset it may be able to fix this for you.

This is very odd. I just tried your suggested solution, Brink, however, it did not fix the issue.

This may be uber simplistic, but -- have you manually tried to delete it? If so, what happens?

Also, in Task Manager, is the download shown there, in either Applications, (and if so, can you end the task?) or in Processes (and if so, can you end the process)?

Dutchcoffee,

As a test to see if this may get rid of it, open Notepad, click on File (menu bar) and Open, then select All Files (*.*) above the Open and Cancel buttons. Next navigate to and open your My Downloads folder to see if you may see a ghost of the .mp3 file. If you do, then right click on it and click on Delete, and close the Open and Notepad windows.

Sometimes a ghost file will not show in the normal Windows Explorer window to be able to easily delete, but will in a "Open" or "Save As" type dialog box.

This may be a given, but just in case, did you reboot your machine after clearing the icon cache?

How did you download the file? The reason I ask is that maybe the software that you used to download the file still has a handle on it. Like uTorrent or something. The sofware may think that you still have the file. Try clearing the cache of the software you used to download the file (IE or firefox or uTorrent or the like)

Just for giggles, see if adding a couple of images into the folder may toggle the preview image of the folder to change or update. You may need to refresh (F5) the window. Afterwards, you could just delete the images.

This is quite odd, indeed. I tried adding a few images to the download folder like you said, Brink, however, that did not change anything.

Strange indeed. What is the location of this Downloads folder?

Is it your C:\Users\(user-name)\Downloads folder?

Ah, ok. That's why it wasn't working before then.

You can use OPTION TWO in the tutorial below to make sure it's set to it's default location.
