Remote Sleep

I thought that I would never want to use the sleep mode, but I never say never. I'm trying to enable the function for use on my HTPC, using a EZ Commander remote, that has a power button that is supposed to cause it to enter/exit sleep...but it doesn't

Even with sleep disabled, I thought that it should have worked for restart or shutdown, but it doesn't do that either. It may be that the button is defective, but I need to determine exactly where the fault lies.

I have been tinkering with the power settings, but regardless of what I have tried, sleep is greyed out on the Start Menu's power switch options. How do I enable it?

Try running the command powercfg -a from an elevated CMD prompt to make sure your BIOS is configured for sleep properly first.

I first checked in the BIOS, and it was already set to have both S1 and S3 enabled, yet sleep is still greyed out on the power button options. I then ran the CMD prompt that you suggested, and I have attached the screenshot. I've rechecked the settings in Power Configurations, and the best that I can see, it should be set properly...at least the sleep button is set for sleep.

This was a good thought, because I went into the power settings in gpedit.msc, and found that sleep was disabled there. I then enabled it, and it does now appear as an option on the power button, but that has changed nothing in regards to the remote being able to toggle sleep with it. This would seem to point to a problem with the remote, but when I do press the remote's power button, there is a flashing light on the receiver indicating that it is getting the signal.

It seems that the only way that the remote's button works, it to awake the computer from sleep, rather than putting it to sleep. This may be by design, but I find that useless, since there are so many ways to wake the computer otherwise. I'm going shopping for another remote, for a variety of reasons, but I don't know if there are any that would do what I want them to do.
