Black Screen of Death from Media Center

Well i have been having problems watching live TV and recorded TV in Windows Media Center. Originally i was seeing a codec issue in event viewer so i removed the codec and the associated piece of software. After it's removal event viewer had a different issue whenever it would crash SQL Server (MSSMBIZ) so i dissabled the SQL server as i don't use outlook or anything like that on my HTPC. So now when it crashes event viewer say the crash was unexpected (No sh*t it was unexpected) I have the dump file set up but since it is not a blue screen o death but a black screen total lock (needs manual reset on case) there is no dump file created.

All TV blue rays, DVD's and media play perfectly fine in TMT5.

All drivers are up to date.

System can take 2hours to stop working or 5 min never consistant.

Currently to get around the problem is i record TV in media center then watch the file using TMT5 but that is really annoying as i only have TMT5 so i can watch Blu-rays in WMC so is kind of bass ackwards.

posted this in media center didn't get much response hoping you guys can help and if the solution is re-install windows i think i will just throw the computer in the garbage.

Not much info here, but here's a few suggestions:
- uninstall all ATI stuff and then download ONLY the Driver from the ATI website: Global Provider of Innovative Graphics, Processors and Media Solutions | AMD There have been issues with older versions of this software in the past.
- uninstall the Hauppage/WinTV software, then physically remove the card from your system. I've had issues with this stuff in the past.
- MSSQL is having problems with logging that may point to a corruption - please uninstall it.
- the SoundGraph program is spitting out errors regularly - please uninstall it.

No problem uninstalling most of the stuff except for the Hauppage card as uninstalling it will make it very difficult to test if WMC is working with live TV as there is no longer a TV tuner to watch with? Unless we are assuming that i record some live TV leave it on the system and then try watching while the tuner is unplugged?

The point here is to try it to see if it's the problem, so try it with some recorded TV. I've experienced issues with my Hauppage card and WinTV - and I've seen some other people with problems also.

Give it a try - and if it isn't the problem, feel free to reinstall it (using Win7 drivers (only Win7 drivers - not Vista) from the Hauppage website.
