I am having an issue with a small network I have. I have 6 computers that are all running windows 7 pro or ultimate. We are all connected via a home group. All are able to connect to each other except one.

I get and error that says

"\\pcname is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.
The specified network provider name is invalid"

This is also causing me not able to connect to any network shared drive, while all the other computers are able to access them.

I have already done the troubleshooting guide for the home group. rejoined the home group. so anything would be helpful.

If this helps at all, this all started when adobe bonjour decided to freak out and not allow me to connect to any network resources. To resolve that i was forced to uninstall bonjour. This issue was only cause by Adobe CS3, which i have, and i have not reinstalled adobe CS3 as of yet.

At this point i do not have a restore point to refer back to so I am sunk there.

Please any help would be wonderful

Hi Customfig,

On the computer that is having issues, do you have everything configured in Network and Sharing Center > Advanced sharing settings as I have shown?

Did the clock on the affected PC get changed? I know having the wrong date/time on a PC will keep if from joining a homegroup (Gives you an Incorrect Password Error for some odd reason instead of something helpful), just not sure if a date/time change would cause a machine to not connect to a previously connected homegroup.

Do you get this error on one machine while trying to access any other machine on the network? Or do you get it when any other machine on the network tries to acess that one machine? And is the one machine that is the problem, or the focus of the problem, the one that had bonjour on it?

So we are all on the same time and just verified all computers have the same time.

So the error comes from that one computer. It can not access any network resources. So if i wanted to go to the public folders on another computer it would not allow me with the above error message. If i try to access a share folder on a server, same error.

If a computer tries to connect to my problem child computer, it connects just fine.

The the problem child computer that had the bonjour issue cant access others while others can access it.

I have found the problem!

To fix:

1.) Open your Registry Editor (Start -> Run -> regedit.exe)
2.) Navigate to Computer:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\NetworkProvider\HwOrder
3.) Backup the string ProviderOrder (copy what you have into Notepad or something)
4.) Alter the string ProviderOrder to "RDPNP,LanmanWorkstation, webclient"

This fixed it for me. Apparently, I had some other applications that hijacked my network provider order and my computer could not find other computers on the network.

Yes this post is outdated yet the problem still comes up all the time so I will post a link to a potential solve for this ongoing problem.

It's simply a matter of deleting all files which reside in the PeerNetworking folder, this needs to be done on all machines in the Homegroup including the one that can't join or leave the Homegroup.

You should then leave the Homegroup on all machines. After that you need to create a new Homegroup then rejoin from all other machines. The link shows you how. :)

Solved Homegroup and sharing problems Win7/8
