Windows 7 RTM Is No Go – 7600 Not the Gold Build

Windows 7 has not been released to manufacturing, Microsoft reveals, as reports to the contrary surged beginning with the end of the past week, and continuing on Monday, July 13th. In this context, 7600 is not the gold build of Windows 7, or at least not the full build string: 6.1.7600.16384.win7_rtm.090710-1945 of the latest leaked development milestone of Windows Vista's successor. The Redmond company reiterated previously announced plans to release Windows 7 to manufacturing in the second half of July 2009, with the deadline close to the end of the month, as I reported the past week right here on Softpedia.

We are close, but have not yet signed off on Windows 7. When we RTM you will most certainly hear it here. As we’ve said all along, we will RTM Windows 7 when it’s ready. May be we just got a confirmation from one of reliable source that build 7600.16384 is not RTM

so, without sounding dense, 7600 isnt RTM?

or is it the build that will be RTM, once all the LP are done and dusted?

I thought i wouldnt have to rebuild my machine anymore for a while, after installing 7600 last night

The current 7600 leak is an RTM build but not the final RTM. RTM is more of a process than a particular build.

So although its in the RTM branch, its not the "Gold" code that is then not changed between now and pressing the DVD's?

This just doesn't make sense.

Okay, so maybe it ISN'T the "gold" code. Maybe it's not even the final build. However, an "official" statement released with a future date attached? Exactly one week in the future, to be exact? Sounds like this press release was written a while ago, and they expected the 7600 build to take another week to finish.

This, to me, seems like MS is intentionally leaking these builds, and screwed up by being a week ahead of schedule, and not proofreading their press release.

Does that make me crazy for thinking so?

Nevermind. I clicked the link. It was a type, and they have corrected it. It should have said "10th of July"

hope they dont claim 6.1.7600.16384.win7_rtm.090710-1945,is RTM in future by saying it was typo error

The build 7600.16384.090710-1945 x64 may or may not be 'gold' but it activates without time bomb which is good enough for me.
I'll keep it and see what windows update does over the coming year.
