Seperating x64 from windows 7 ultimate x64 x86.

Hello people,
I have looked over these
forums for a while and
am hereby still not very
confident with my issue
to start a new topic.
However, I could not find
an answer anywhere.
I want to repair my laptop by upgrading from windows 7 ultimate to windows 7 ultimate. (I hope that is possible) but i have download a iso from torrents that contains windows 7 ultimate both x64 x86. so i want to create a seperate 64 bit only disk ,from the iso i have, to start the upgrade process (as upgrade can be done only by disks with 64 bit files). I hope its clear. And i dont want to sfc scan or restore my pc.
I have also tried rt7lite and 7customiser but none of them works.

Just needs a way to create seperate 64 bit windows 7 ultimate from the disk i have that would be well appreciated. Thanks

The best way is to buy one. There is no legal way to download a Windows 7 DVD, 32 or 64 bit.

If you do the right sort of web searching, there are links to downloads of the retail .iso files out there. I'd post some, but I belive that would be a violation of the forum rules. I'm not sure whether Ultimate is among them, but any of the versions supposedly can be made generic (by removing ei.cfg).

I'd suggest that as safer than the torrents.

Safer yet would be finding someone who'd make a copy of the Win7 installation DVD, for use with your key.

Note that if you wish to go from Win7 X86 to X64, an upgrade-in-place is not possible. Only a clean install is available, as with any other switch form a 32 bit to a 64 bit version of Windows.

I'm glad you mentioned that, cuz I believe I'd have asked about it, before long.

Why can't you choose the 64 bit of your licensed Win7 version to do the Repair Install from the desktop?

If you have SP1 installed you'll need an installer for your bit rate and version with SP1 included, and not slipstreamed in. Otherwise you have to uninstall SP1 before REpair Installing: uninstall Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1)

What is your Win7 version and how is it activated?

Have you tried pressing <Alt+F10> at boot up, to goto the Acer eRecovery Management.

Interesting - I wonder if the torrent ISO is a bit dodgy. I checked the MSDN download library and found Win7 Ultimate as separte ISO files, one for x86 and one for x64 (no dual ISO); latest release date was May 12, 2011.

DISCLAIMER: I haven't tried to use the x64 disk to install the x86 version of Ultimate.

As noted in other replies, you can not "upgrade" from Ultimate x86 to x64.
