reinstalled W7 now DVD drive wont open???????

i just reinstalled windows 7 ultimate x86 (as you man know from my other post) and now the DVD drive wont open

the windows 7 dvd is still in the drive

how can i get it working again and get my dvd back???

To manually open your dvd drive hook a piece of thin wire in the pinhole at the front of the disc tray and pull it open.

Have a look in device manager under DVD/CD-ROM drives to check if your drive is missing a driver.

Sounds like you should be OK then.

Chances are your Windows DVD was probably dirty or had a scratch mark on it. If you do clean it, make sure it's a clean lint-free cloth, and wipe from the centre of the disc to its perimeter.

you could class it as solved but today when i tried to burn a dvd it wouldnt open and still cant :(

i have tried using a knife again it doesnt work
tried with a tooth pic it doesnt work
tried with a paper clip doesnt work

i have put it in the hole below the dvd but but it still doesnt open :'(

You may have a failing DVD drive. Check all of the connections and make sure they are securely connected. See if the computer is seeing the DVD. Click on computer and see if it shows your DVD. Then go to Device Manager, expand dvd, right click and select properties. It should say this device is working properly.

The good news is, even if the drive is dying or dead, it is one of the cheapest parts to replace. In the U.S., a good Samsung drive can be had for about $20.

If it has recently started this, the DVD may be malfunctioning. As DeaconFrost said, a new one is $20 or less.

Keep in mind that a dead or dying DVD drive can still show up in Device Manager and report that everything is working properly.
