Computer Bottleneck- HDD - SSD. giving data speed to proccessing speed

Through the windows experience im at 7.8's / 7.4's... with my hdd at 5.9. looking at getting a ssd to level everything up.... but what i dont know is... how does the read/write speeds translate into processing.

what read speed is equal to the rest of my rig? I just dont know how it translates iops/1GB's read/write to GHz proccessing.
The giving data speed to proccessing speed

Here is an As SSD for my WD1002FAEX 1TB sata 6GB/s mechanical hard drive

Here is the same test on my Intel 80GB X25 M

For an OS drive the advertised speeds really mean nothing to the average user unless you are going to be transferring large files all day. The most important thing is access time- how long it takes from the time you push the button until the application actually opens. No spinning circles with a good SSD.

ahh nice, how does that work out in your rig.. is your ssd giving you cpu data faster than it can process it or cpu still waiting for data at moments?
would a single core 3GHz cpu be equal to 200MB/s read speed?

When you push the mouse button to open a program, it is open by the time you release the button- as in instantly. I really don't know the answers to any of the other questions. It does not seem that there is any waiting by anything. As far as a single core, I don't know as I have never tried one. But, my opinion is that whatever type of CPU you have, your performance will increase. I have never talked to anyone who has gone to an SSD that hasn't said it is the biggest improvement in performance that you can do to a computer. You will have increased startup times and apps will open quickly. It won't make your internet speed faster or your CPU faster, but it will allow your cpu to not wait on your hard drive.

The only problem I read the most about from those that want a ssd and those that have a sse is the price. The HDD has been a bottle neck for years and the ssd has went a long way to solve that. I don't have any charts or graphs to show. I do remember the first time I used my ssd all I could hear was; I can't believe how fast things work and that came from me. It was hard for me to part with $300.00 to buy it but after using it I am happy I did.

That's true. And others, like me, will say-"I'll never use anything else." Every time I get on a computer with a mechanical hard drive I am amazed that I used to use one and liked it.

I say this with all due respect...but please don't get an SSD to enhance your WEI score. I'm not sure why people still focus on it, but it is an utterly useless tool that isn't a benchmark at all. There are plenty of good reasons to get an SSD, and I'm using one in my system as the system volume....but changing your WEI scores isn't one of those reasons.

Besides....it's a worthless score. See (no, that's not photoshopped):

7.9 is the current highest, but considering it is such a worthless tool, you can edit an XML file to make it whatever score you want. WEI is good for one and only one thing...running initially to make sure AERO is enabled. After that, it should be completely ignored and forgotten.

ahh right, i see what your saying. cant be used for bragging rights.
my purpose was bringing my whole pc to a level field for myself.

plus i dont know how say 2.8 Ghz on a 6 core cpu would translate into x MB/s read speed... if there is 1. if you understand what im saying

That's just it....it doesn't mean you are at a level playing field. The scores don't equate across the hardware categories. You need benchmark tools based on the types of usage you do in order to find out the weakest point.

Processor speed isn't measured in MB/s so I'm not sure where you are going with that. You can't try to find a common numerical "value" to associate with your hardware to figure out the bottleneck. I know it seems like WEI is trying to do that, but it isn't. You don't match up your hard drive with the type of processor you have to make sure they are equal. You figure out the uses for your computer, what resources matter most, and then find out what your bottleneck is.

For example, if a system's graphic's card had a lower WEI than the rest of the components, but the system isn't used for anything graphically intense...then who cares?

I agree with DeaconFrost. WEI is used by me to find what part of my computer is a little slower than other parts. Then I can decide whether I need to upgrade that area or not. Comparing one computers WEI to another computer is kids toys. Some say they don't need a ssd. That's fine, if you are happy. I only need one video card that's why I don't have more. I don't know why I have four printers. I already gave two away. I should look into that again. Get my drift? Everything isn't for everybody. If you are looking for speed to match the rest of your computers speed a ssd will help.
