Sata disks issues in Win7 SP1

Hello,

I have recently done a complete system reinstall as it wasn't stable anymore. I had among others the following symptoms that I got rid of first, but after all Windows7 automatic updates it was there again:

One of my SATA drives can't be found in Windows anymore - it is listed ok in the BIOS boot up, status ok, but doesn't appear in Windows 7 Disk management or Explorer. After a system restart BIOS can't connect to any of the SATA drives and booting fails. I have to cold start the PC to get them back again - and then usually have to tell the BIOS again to order of drives as it updates itself if "new" disks are found (that weren't in the last boot).

All this worked fine for half a week while Windows was doing more and more of its automatic updates. I think the problem appears with SP1.

Is there any known issue like that?

My hardware is an ASUS M3N78 board, 2 WD Sata drives, 1 Maxtor Sata drive (this one disappeared).

Cheers,
Kai

Hi SchlauFuchs. Welcome. :geek:

First, did you try installing the Asus controllers and chipset drivers?

Is the problem drive (maxtor?) on the same controller as the other 2 drives?

Also, if you think that SP1 'breaks' the system, have you tried uninstalling SP1 to see if the problem still occurs?
