configure acer aspire one (d250) to boot directly into windows.

Hi guys, I've recently upgraded from windows 7 starter to ULTIMATE!!!
I appear to have lost the control panel option to configure my netbook to boot directly into windows (loads android first). I can hit F9 when I get the BIOS screen to achieve this, but I would like to boot windows as the default OS.
Previously, I think this was achieved using an acer control panel option. I no longer appear to have any. I've installed the "launch manager", but this doesn't have any options...

Any ideas how I can acquire this configuration feature again?

I've tried setting the other IDE as first boot via BIOS, but this appears to have no effect.

Any info MOST APPRECIATED.

Cheers

Jonny

Do you use the Windows 7 DVD to upgrade or anytime upgrade?

Hello JonnyZephyr, welcome to Seven Forums!

Perhaps it would be best to do a complete wipe of the Hard Disk Drive / Solid State Drive and then start the installation process again, have a look at Step One of the Optimize tutorial below; after you have copied out or made back-ups of the data you need to save to external media, then boot the Windows 7 installation media to do the wipe secure erase to the HDD / SSD and be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.

:info: Whether you use diskpart to run either the clean all command to completely wipe a HDD / SSD or just the clean command to remove the format configuration data and don't use diskpart to create at least a single partition to do the installation to, letting the Windows installer do the format, the new Windows 7 System Reserved partition will be automatically issued, if you want to make your own decision whether this partition is added, study these two (2) options below.
  • If you do not want to create the new Windows 7 "System Reserved" partition use the outline in Step Two #2 to create, format and mark Active a single 100GB partition to do the installation to.
  • If you do want to create the "System Reserved" partition use the outline in Step Two #3 to create, format and mark Active the System Reserved partition and then create and format the 100GB partition to do the installation to.
Either way, running the clean all then creating and formatting the partition(s) using diskpart will get you the best possible space to do a clean install of Windows 7 to; you can always extend the Windows partition to include the remaining unallocated space on the HDD / SSD or create additional Primary partitions or an Extended partition after the installation completes if you choose.

Thanks but no thanks! spent several days getting thus, very happy with optimised current custom config, willing to hit f9 every boot IF NECESSARY!!

I moved all my media to external hard drives, backed up my chrome bookmarks, then ran a backup to an external via norton ghost. This is task #999, low priority, but if it's possible, I'll do it tonight (if I can).

Thank you so much for your useful and timely questions and suggestions.

J

As you can manually select the boot option you require this would suggest that just the boot manager is incorrectly set-up

If you download EasyBCD you should be able to add the windows install to the boot manager, there are full instructions on the website on it's use

it may also be that the system will use some form of grub to load the Android OS if this is the case then a Linux forum, (or others here), will be able to explain the manual edits required

Please post back a screenshot of your maximized Disk Management drive map with listings showing all columns, using the Snipping Tool in Start Menu. We can advise you better how to get Win7 booting correctly.

Did you have a Dual Boot previous to your Upgrade to get into Android, or how did that work exactly?

Hi Greg

Acer preinstalled Daul boot with Android & Windows 7 starter, using Acer configuration manager.

Ray.
