Hello all. Is there any free image solution that will allow me to browse the image backup file that I take? Clonezilla is great, but as far as I know, does not offer a way to browse and restore specific files from the image.

I have a customer that is replacing some Windows XP machines. They do not really need the data, so I would like to create an image of their Operating System, and have the ability to restore files from it.

As far as Acronis goes, you may not need to buy it.
Check if the HD manufacturers offer a free version of Acronis, if you would prefer using it.
Although the free version is a stripped version, it should be able to Image the HD, and recover selected files from the image.



Or as suggested, give Macrium a shot.

As stated Macrium allows for easy browsing of images.
Windows inbuilt imaging also allows you to do the same. It takes a few more clicks- you attached the image in Disk Management and browse/extract files if you want.

While Acronis isn't free, it's only $29 from NewEgg...so if you like what the application does, you might consider making an investment. It's one of just a few applications that I have purchased...most everything else I use is free.
