Hi guys... It was just this morning when I found that my DVI - HDMI cable was unplugged, it seemed that my Mom was kind of "super cleaning" my room, and she unconsciously removed the cable from my Samsung SyncMaster 2494. When I get to plug it back I find that the computer won't detect the monitor using the DVI - HDMI cable (Which has been used continuously for the past year and a half).

I decided to connect the computer via VGA... Poof, it works... Then I decide to test the DVI - HDMI cable with another device such as my Xbox 360. I plug it in, turn it on, and poof it works! I got astonished thinking that the output of my video card was damaged, and decided to test it with 2 more HDMI capable computers... Each of them DID NOT emit the signal nor detected the display.

I did a reset on the monitor, recycled the power, and I don't know what to do know... My Dell XPS M1530 (8600M GT) won't detect my monitor via HDMI anymore!.....

Help! Thanks XD.

P.S: ATM, besides the 360, I do not own a device which is HDMI capable.

Try uninstalling all the monitors listed in Device Mangler, shut down the computer, switch cables to the HDMI, then start it back up.

Did it, but it did not work.... It seems the problem is more with the monitor rather than the PC... Anyways I'll keep investigating it...

Guys, do you think it may be a faulty cable?
Not if it worked with your Xbox.

I haven't had an nVidia card for a while, but do you have any of their utility/monitoring programs installed? Maybe look around in there.

I'd double check in the monitor menu, too. Most of them have a range of input choices like Auto/DVI/HDMI/VGA. Try "Auto" first, and if it's no-go, set it to HDMI. (In other words, just monkey around with the setting and see if you get lucky.) ;)

It seems is the cable. I've tried connecting the cable in another monitOr and it yielded the same results: no image displayed nor the monitor was detected. I'll be ordering a new cable soon and I will tell you afterwards.

A friend's theory, which it seems right. It seems that the cable has several pins broken (which at clear eye doesn,t seem so) and the xbox 360 DOES NOT need those pins either to detect the monitor or to display the image.
Although crazy, let's see what happens when I receive the new cable

Have you tried the monitor on another computer? Did you try the menu on the monitor like I mentioned before?
Yeah, I tried . Dozens of times. But there are several statements to point out:

First, I need to have something connected for the monitor to show up the menu. (Which I use two 360s to do the job)

Second. I've tried using the force output with the Nvidia settings (to see if something comes up, including the TV output setting), but nothing!

Third. I've learned that the cable I just got, does convert the video signal to HDMI. I mean, the other cable had different pins than the one I got, and when I went to the 360's display settings it said DVI. Now with the new cable it says HDMI....

Better show you some pictures:
Cable 1 is the old cable.
Cable 2 is the new cable.

DVI is shown on the configuration on the 360 (Cable 1)
HDMI is shown on the configuration on the 360 (Cable 2)

I'll keep monkeying around with the settings to see if I can get to something... Again thanks a lot for the fast replies.

Is it possible that when the pins were bent on the old cable that it damaged the connection on the video card? Can you get us a good close-up shot of the card and its connections?

Well it is a laptop.... If you want, I could disassemble it an take a picture.... But just to say that the motherboard was replaced 4 months ago, and yes, the video card comes bundled with the motherboard.

What I'm getting at is a picture of the connector where the monitor gets plugged in. I'm wondering if when the cord was yanked out and the pins were bent that it might have messed up the socket.

Being a laptop, something that pulled hard enough to bend a couple of pins might have also pulled the entire laptop off the desk. Is that possible?

Pulling the entire laptop off the desk was not possible due to the reason that it has almost no exit. It must have been a very long journey for it to fall. Plus, none of the cables were disconected, and I am the only one in my entire house who knows how to deal with them...

Anyways, I'm addressing you the pics with the connector.... Thanks a lot for the fast replies and the great help!

P.S: Sorry for the bad quality pic... It was taken from my cellphone...

Edit****************************

By The Way, the cable which was disconnected was the DVI end, the laptop was unscathed.

No. That was the Monitor's connection.
This is the laptop's:

BTW it is a Dell XPS M1530 with Nvidia Geforce 8600M GT.

I'm currently using a DVI - HDMI cable

Are there any problems (red "X" or Yellow "!") in Device Manager? While you're in there, what does it show under Display Adapters?

Most laptops have a utility down by the clock to adjust video settings. Do you have anything like that? (It may be a hidden icon.) What is the name of the utility?

In Control Panel under Display>>Adjust Resolution does it show the monitor at all? (Make sure it's connected and turned on.) ;)

Nope. Only a Bluetooth driver, which I am lazy enough not to update, since it's working fine.

Most laptops have a utility down by the clock to adjust video settings. Do you have anything like that? (It may be a hidden icon.) What is the name of the utility?
Nvidia Control Panel. Aside from that, there's nothing.

No it does not show anything. Only the VGA output, which is not connected. I even tried forcing it out, by forcing detection and output. But got no results.

Thanks again :) for keep helping me to solve my issue.

Profdlp. I just solved the problem :D (Finally!!!) I did (again like for 3rd time) what you just suggested me with the new cable: Uninstall the display drivers, and reset the computer with it. I did it, and now it is working like a charm.

Thanks a lot for helping me this out. :D
