Solved What do you guys think of this Bulldozer MB ?

Hi ,Everyone one of my fav stores has finally gotten the Bulldozer mainboards in .

I was looking around most of them start out at 199.99

I found one cheaper by 50.00 us check it out compared to the extreme one's i seen

I certainly wouldn't make any moves until these chips come out and honestly get tested by enthusiasts.

Ha well I can use my old AM3 chip still basicly all i need is new ram and a new case and im ready to go
almost forgot to mention a ssd would be a nice add too

The new chip is optional right now in the air if you will

I agree with pparks and Whs, but it looks like a good board if you are only going to run 1 card.

I havn't heard from any AMD guys not saying you guys running intel are wrong but im wondering do you guys know about todays AMD platform vs old AMD technology ?

I have an AMD rig, or at least I did until the MB died about a month ago. I've read about the new technology and it sounds quite good. I'm just waiting to see how it works first. I'll rebuild the other rig because I have too many parts laying around not to. But I'm waiting to see what they come out with. I'm not a fanboy of either side. I just like what works best.

makes me feel better knowing a few people out there know about the technology

I know TWEEK bought a AM3+board but havnt heard from him or talked to him about it

Im assumming the more boards they have the most likly they are to fail ? as in being able to operate and do the job without having a recall

Anyway I am looking around for a New case Ram -SSD possibly Im looking into taking this old rig and selling it for a couple hundred and taking that and throwing a extra HD6870 for some X-fire

The processors can wait a while because if i wait around im sure to get a top end one that will be pretty cool

one more thing i am unsure about is will my cpu cooler fit this new board or will i have to get a newer one hmmmm another question that needs answering

I am going to assume that the cooler would work. It seems that if the AM3 CPUs work that the AM3 coolers would work also.

BTW, you mentioned putting another 6870 with the one you have. the board you are looking at has 2 pcie x16 slots, 1 @ X16 and 1 @ X4

My current CPU is holding everything back on my AM3+ board. I'm gonna grab a 965BE so I can run some proper benches until BD chips are out.

i currently have a 965BE

so that is not a issue, but how is the board holding up besides that ?

That actually was one of the boards they have a sabortooth for 199.99 with 4 x 16 pci lanes for quadfire not that i need it but i can get one with 4x 16x lanes

Well, I'm not an Intel guy. I've owned numerous AMD rigs over the years, and wouldn't hesitate to do another if the price and performance were right. My most recent AMD purchase was an AMD Athlon64 X2 4600+ (windsor) around end of 2006. At that time, AMD was kicking Intel's but, as Intel was still pushing the aging Pentium 4 platform.

Since that time, Intel has steadily been the performance leader with the Core 2 Duo line, the Core 2 Quad, the Core i3/i5/i7. In addition, with price drops, the Intel rigs have been very competitively priced against the AMD. While the AMD is usually a smidge cheaper, the performance trade-off simply hasn't been worth it (for me). When it's anything but a budget rig being built, I haven't been recommending or building AMD rigs.

I'm hoping that the Bulldozer comes out and has stellar performance as I'm going to be in the market for a new PC in about 1 year. While the current line of AMD 6 cores are nice, they get beat by core i5/i7 quad core Intels which cost approximately the same....so it's been Intel's that I have been purchasing.

yes i know of this .the reason why i changed from intel was i always had cooling issues

with AMD i don't and i heard it was the other way around to make more proof of what i am saying i am useing the same exact case that used my p4-MB intel cpu 3.4 ,7300gt

So i know it wasn't the case or air flow it was the cpu in general now for performance yes you wont get the same intel performance and no i probally won't OC much to get any extra boost simply not worth it

Like any new chip hardware there is always a testing period and maybe time will tell and AMD will equal that of a intel chip

Personally, I hope you are right. Healthy competition is best for all consumers. hope AMD can match or beat Sandy Bridge.

My two cents are that the ASUS boards are always solid performing boards and if you're interested in being an early adopter of the BD I see nothing wrong with this board but patience has a way of always rewarding one with options and the full scale of competition. Me I'm a MSI man and within short order your options will be plentiful as you know the mobo mfgr's are all totally geared up for the AMD launch.....can't wait !

I am still looking around im not sold on anything yet

Also i like to go in person and purchase my mainboard to me shipping is like trusting a band of monkeys to handle a fragile egg

so im still going to be waiting i want to go get the best deal possible

in store so im looking for the end of the summer to be into the new AMD gear
