Kidding aside, the way I read it they are just not going to call the next OS after Windows 8, Windows. Instead of Windows Phone "X" or Windows Tablet "X" they will all be refered to as (what ever the new name is).

Well, if you look at it, Microsoft is expected to consolidate their brands to be under either Xbox or Windows. Those are their two most successful products they have. And I highly doubt the next Xbox will do anything to Windows anymore than it already has, that is, if I can make a PowerPoint on an Xbox. :D

There's also a rumor that does have some, and I stress some really hard, stock that Windows 8 may have integration with the Xbox 360. The stock to this is that next year at E3, Microsoft will unveil its new Xbox '720'. It makes sense since it would tear down the barrier between Xbox games that need to be ported over to Windows. That takes months after the console release and it would tap into a new market of people that refuse to buy an Xbox just to play a some games and be done with it.

Not only that, there has been two lines of code that suggest so, like XBOX_360_SYSTEM_CRASH. Could be some mundane Xbox Live thing, but one can always dream right?.... :)

You guys seen the video where Windows 8 looks like nothing we are used to? You should check it out if you have not already. Its very interesting to say the least. I am not sure how it is going to work out the UI I mean on a regular PC but it sure will work great on a tablet.

I've seen all of the major videos for it and I think it's something. But the thing needs to be understood first is that the Start screen is the major UI change so far. It's not going to take over the traditional Taskbar anytime soon. It's just an axing of the Start menu and bringing in the Start screen to cater to touch screens, I personally like it, that is as long as Microsoft decides for non-touch screens that the Start screen won't be the default thing you look at once you log in.

And it'd be much nicer if the Start screen tiles only hovered over a white, translucent background of the desktop and Taskbar than a purple or solid color...in my opinion...:p

The xbox 360 does run windows right now. It is just a highly custum version. I can see them allowing the user to be able to play PC game on the next console.

Microsoft is also looking into putting all of the next gen games on USB 3.0 Flash Drives because it is faster the a DVD/Blu Ray drive. This would also alow them to encrypt there game more to provent coping. We will see what they will do when it happens.................

Erm, pardon me for intruding on people debunking this idea but surely it doesn't matter what the hardware is if the core of the OS is the same. All that you see is a front end. So if you're using a PC, 1 GUI is loaded on top of the core and if you're using a phone a different GUI is loaded. It's not that hard to understand surely.

The Windows name is used because that's essentially how each application was represented but if you're using tiles like on, say, WP7 then why call it Windows even though the underlying OS is what we know as Windows today? I can definitely see this happening?

If what you mean is, in comparison, using Media Centre instead of Explorer as your shell, then yes, you're right. Its still windows, just a different front-end.

Linux Ubuntu have been doing this for quite some time, most notably with the K and X variants.
