Hello,

I currently do not have a second harddrive but will get one soon.
For now however I would like to know if it is possible to have certain files/directories moved to the outside of my harddrive for increased performance.

Does any of you know if it's possible, and if yes, then how?

Thanks in advance.

Mark

Hello,

Thanks for both your reply, however, That is not what I am asking.
Could you read my question again?

I am asking if it is possible to have files moved to the outside of my harddrive so that access time can be improved.

Thanks.

You can use this defragger Disk Defrag - Fast and Safe Defragmenter for Your Disks which has an optimize buttom which will move files needed more often to the beginning of the disk for quicker access.
As for doing this manually I dont think its possible but someone else may know better.

Hello markvis14, Perhaps we don't understand what you want to do. Could you explain better? I'm not sure where you want to put these files. An external hard drive is an excellent idea. Are you wanting to move them permanently or just keep extra copies of them? With only 1 hard drive, perhaps you could partition your hard drive and use xxxdannyxxx idea and move the user folders to the new partition.

Hello,

I never said I wanted an external drive.

xxxdannyxxx is on the right track.
I am talking about improving file access timing by moving them to the begin (the outside) of the disk.

I want to know if that can be done manually.

Thanks for your help.

I looked around a little today and cant find anything on doing this manually as its windows that decides what goes where on the disk.Have a look at the program I suggested above that may help a little. Most of my common files are contained in the faster part of the disk using this.
Sorry I couldt get to where you wanted.
