serious crash Gremlins in the works?

Well what a day I will begin I have linux kubuntu on one of my ssd drives seperate to windows 7 and I was updating it today when horror a power cut pc went off 10 mins. My ups kicked in and hibernated the system for me so when power was restored I booted up. Could not boot into kubuntu to start with pop up screen told me file was missing huh so I shut down and proceeded to boot into windows 7. the splash screen with my system logo on was gone next splash screen the windows logo was fine but as soon as it loged into the desktop my graphics card was not working everything big, then all of a sudden pop ups stating drivers installing WHAT the FU** was my first thought, pop up from the amd ccc saying driver not installed. So I stopped the machine from working started a system restore (only back a few days) 1hr later im back to the desktop still no graphics card working then pop ups again installing drivers (as in the video I posted) so I let windows install all of the drivers it wanted to. All the usb ports and the items connected to them got reinstalled, I had to reinstall my security software from scratch. Then I had to uninstall ccc and reinstalled it. Also my wireless card. Only after 5 reboots and two start up repairs have I now got a workable windows 7.phew im releaved thought the pc was going to die. I have reformated the ssd with kubuntu on could not get it to boot. Has anyone got any idea of the cause? Im still investigating the system logs to see why. Gremlins in the works?

I would turn turn off the hibernate on an SSD. If power cuts off for extended time go ahead and power off the PC normally before the UPS runs down.
If in the middle of an update let it finish then shut down if possible.

You don't need everything in that tutorial since it is installed just some good pointers.
Turn off hibernate and enable sleep if you want.

thanks for the advice and info, i will install kubuntu again on the ssd and be careful when updating. you are right put to sleep would be best. it must of knocked out the motherboard, pit pissed the splash screen has gone that covers the first boot up screen.

I disabled hibernate right after I installed Win 7 on HDD's. It always came back on with things messed up.

Not near as bad as yours was today and a reboot always got things back in order for me.
Needless to say I'm not a hibernate fan.

Just my experience and what WHS and others have posted. Someone else may have other ideas also.

i just tried to run sfc /scannow but it runs for 6 seconds and comes back with cant run error?

Windows 7 Home Premium Edition 6.01.7600 SP1 (x64)

If what you have in your specs is what you are trying scannnow from I assume you have the Win 7 disk. You can try CMD from the CD.

I forgot how. Back in a second with the tutorial.

BFK's tutorial to run from original disk or instructions to run from Repair Disk you would have made.

Good instructions. Step #2 with Original disk you click repair instead of install. Then skip down to Step #5.

i have no win 7 disc it was bought installed the error i get "Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service"

Hello, saw the call for help... I assume that you did not really already restore as you said in this last post? If not don't, not yet. IMHO, there are 2 possibilities here:

1. Notwithstanding ups, some hw got fried...
2. Hopefully not hw but your W7 update/authorisation/boot seq got fried.

The thing is... You need to try to be sure it is NOT option one before we try to fix option 2. If we don't things will only get worse.

So my next step would be to test all HW with a seperate, bootable instance of W7 on usb or cd or with a ubuntu disk.

Is that a possibility for you?

Ps... If you desperately want to give W7 a try because your parallel linux install works fine on the hw... The next step there (as you don't seem to have install/repair discs) is
sfc /SCANNOW /OFFBOOTDIR=c:\ /OFFWINDIR=c:\windows
That is sfc wih offline options and this example assumes your w7 boot disk/dir is C:...replace with correct letter if not.

hi the problem occurred updating the kubuntu while i had power cut. since then i have got windows running ok and booting fine after a system restore dated of only a couple of days back just the sfc scan wont run . i have got rid of the kubuntu a few hours ago its on a separate ssd drive that will be easy to re-install later.

If windows is running fine... Why the sfc?

Anyway, the offline option in my ps post could still be worth a try if a normal sfc does not work because of re-install issues

Anyway, the offline option in my ps post could still be worth a try if a normal sfc does not work because of re-install issues

its always good to do a sfc when you have crashes even if it appears to be running ok its not a problem i have come across before the sfc not working
