Even though Windows 7 rocks the socks off the decade-old XP and the lackluster ball of consumer disappointment known as Vista, Microsoft has had a hard time convincing PC users to make the switch to their new (well, two years old) operating system. When 2011 first rolled around, less than one in ten North American PCs rocked Redmond's latest offering. Expect that number to look a whole lot different by New Year's; one leading analytical firm says Windows 7 will be the most common OS in the world by the time 2012 rears its ugly head.

Well, it doesn't surprise me Shawn.

We have four computers dotted around our apartment and sharing data with Windows 7's Homegroup has been a breeze.

I always thought XP was good, but 7 beats it hands down in my view.

I like the sound of this. Even though 8 will probably release next year, people will still be up-to-date with 7. I might even stick with 7, it's caused nothing wrong in my experience with it.

It's about time. It's the best O/S I have ever used. I still have people that just won't try Windows 7. You can lead them to the bar and they still drink XP.

There's nothing wrong with xp. If it is running fine and current machine is fast enough for you, then there is no point upgrading. But when it comes to buy a new machine, it makes sense to upgrade.

There is no reason to upgrade to Windows 8, unless you need 'cloud' features...Windows 7 will run fine for the time frame it is supported in (2015-2019)...

The Apple Mac is steadily grabbing market share, but Windows-based systems continue to dominate the worldwide personal computer market, according to a new Gartner study.

The report is good news for Microsoft, which has taken its licks lately in the mobile computing market. Redmond's well-received but slow-selling Windows Phone 7 OS has yet to catch on among consumers, who are snapping up Apple iOS and Google Android handsets like crazy.

It was just a matter of time before Windows 7 overcame XP or Vista. Vista was a failure. XP is a great OS, but computers do not last forever and/or people upgrade to remain technologically current. In purchasing a new desktop/laptop all one can find is Windows 7 (64bit) (for the most part unless a person wants a MAC or Linux.)

That's what I said too, although my 6 year old XP computer was a little slow. Now that I bought a new computer with WIN7 64x, I wish I had done it sooner. 7 is really nice. :party:

Seven is as rock solid as they come. It will take quite an act for me to consider upgrading from it. As someone previously said, only if I buy a new machine. All my machines are < 2 years old so I don't expect that to happen for quite some time.

This. It's one of those little things that makes you just think "Why on earth didn't anyone think of this sooner?"

There was a saying around about 2009 when 7 was just becoming available for beta/RTM. "It just works" That is still true today. I think honestly, I may become that thing I so hate with the XP crowd... the person whom you have to pry it from their cold dead fingers.
