I've searched this and other sites for an answer to the question "how do I increase the size of the notification area icons"? (Earlier called the system tray).
All threads seem to lead to adjustments to the quick launch bar.
I can use the advanced appearance windows but this also affects the scrolling bars which I don't want.
It seems that these icons are fixed at 21x21 pixels.
Is there a way around this?

Right-click Desktop>Personalize>Windows Color>Advance Appearance Settings>Item drop-down list>Active Title Bar>Select Size & Color.

Yes you are right that those icons are of fixed size . But we have noticed that a few themers like Mr Grim, Paulioug and nofx hane changed the size of system elements like Start Menu and notification area clock , which we thought to be of fixed size earlier.

So, there might be a way, which is not generally known . I guess theme designers can describe this situation in a better way .

I just tried to change the size of the sound icon in SndVolSSO.dll the original size was 32 x 32 I changed it to 48 x 48 and it did not make any difference the size stayed the same on taskbar. So I'm going to say they are a fixed size. If you go to Control Panel> Display you can change your display settings and it does change the size of little bit but it makes everything else on your computer larger to.
