Hi guys,

I have a Samsung Series 6 LED TV 46-inch, which fully supports 1080p. So, I am trying to output my laptop (system specs) at 1080p via HDMI. The TV recognizes my computer, and displays it. When I go to 'Screen Resolution' and select 1080p for my TV, it outputs, but it outputs a bigger screen than I can see. Meaning, a sizable portion of the taskbar and gadget space (right side of the screen) is cutoff. But, the full screen is being used so... Well, I'm just stuck. Help would be appreciated as I want to watch movies via HDMI on my TV.

Thanks,
Slasher

That's the "overscan" area being cut off.. :)

Some TVs allow you to turn off overscan, but then on normal TV you will see the Closed Captioning data and other tweaky stuff...

So the preferred way is to have the video driver "shrink" the image area. Ususualy there is a page on the video card control panel for "sizing" the display. What it does is lower the actual display resolution by a few pixels on all sides but still outputs the full 1080P to the monitor, that way you can fit the entire screen on the TV.

So hopefully you have at least one of those options to work with.

I have a NVIDIA GPU... Do you know how I can do so through the NVIDIA Control Panel?

That's how I'm doing mine :D (Computer with one (primary) monitor next to my TV chair and the HDMI to big screen, resized to fit)

SHould be able to do it live while watching on the TV to get it just right.

It's your tv not you computer. In the settings of your tv find picture/display settings and you will see something like a -1 or +1 or +2. This is what my sony tv has. Just change that setting untill it looks right. If it is still to big then lower the overscan setting on you computer.

Have you tried the Nvidia scaling option?

Also, check if the resolution is correct.
Theres 2 1920x1080 resolutions.
One for a PC monitor, and the other for HDMI (HDTV)

It should auto adjust, but it may not be.

It would seem to be either an overscan or scaling issue. I'm not familiar with NVidia, I have an ATI and it defaulted to underscaling.

However, my Samsung tv (LN52A650) has three HDMI inputs. Only one of these (number 2) can be used as a PC input. Perhaps your model has a similar limitation.

I have a 46" Samsung too and had the same issue. Under picture options there is a size option which will probably be set to 16:9. If you change it to "screen fit" it should be good to go.

There is an option called 'Moving and Resizing' under the NVidia Control Panel. This will allow you to change your Vert and Hor sizes so that the image fits your TV.
