Doubt about best drivers for Nvidia Ge Force 6200 AGP 512Mb Ram

Hi all,

on my girlfriend's pc I just installed a Nvidia Ge Force 6200. After rebooting, Seven installed the driver "Nvidia Ge Force 6200 - WDDM etc."
I instead installed latest Nvidia drivers from website (280.26). After this, windows performances show a score for Windows Aero only of 2,0. My question is: installing the latest drivers from website, is really better than keeping the ones installed by Seven? Thanks in advance and sorry for my English. Bye.

Just installed one of those in my kids computer to replace a dying 9800 Pro (step backwards in performance, but $30.00 was cheaper than a new computer), and it gets the following,



Can't say how it would do with the latest as I avoiding using it after seeing some of the comments about the 280.26 here and elsewhere so went with the previous WHQL driver,

NVIDIA DRIVERS 275.33 WHQL

Also what was in it before and did you remember to uninstall the drivers for it before making the swap? If you did uninstall the previous cards driver, depending on which chipset is on the motherboard it may also take a re-install of the AGP driver (part of the chipset drivers, not from the cards driver) for the new card/drivers to work properly.

As your pic shows, there must be something wrong with my settings or drivers. I'll try to answer to your question.
Before I installed this nvidia, she had a Radeon 9250 (not supported by seven) and I did NOT uninstall its drivers before swapping cards.
When i plugged the new card and reboot pc, Sevens installed this "Nvidia GeForce 6200 (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM) and the device worked properly (but I don't know its performances).
Then I went to nvidia website and took the latest drivers. After rebooting I have 2,0 on aero Experience (I don't remember 3D performances).
The stuff about the motherboard drivers sounds for me totally new and I would know something more. What sould I do in your opinion? If i click on "Restore Drivers" on Device manager, Seven reinstalls me the former driver. I could try performance with this. Or installing 275.33??

Did you just run it on whatever driver Windows installed for it, or install the last XP driver? If the default Windows driver there shouldn't be anything to uninstall. If it was the XP driver it should be listed in Programs and Features and should be uninstalled. If you didn't use the XP driver I would do this,

to show hidden and ghost devices; ghost being those that were installed/connected at one time, but aren't anymore. The 9250 should show up under Display Adapters, if it does right click on it and uninstall it from there.

As for the AGP driver, the make and model of the motherboard would help.

I would do this after removing the ATI driver if present, and see what score it gives. Then try it again with the 275.33.

No, I didn't use the XP drivers and before i put in the new card, there wasn't nothing about ATI on the Programs List. I didn't know this procedure about ghost/hidden devices. I'll try to find and uninstall the old ATI.

As for the AGP driver, the make and model of the motherboard would help.

Hello lucatomjoad and Welcome to seven Forums. As Stormy points out, you need to uninstall all old graphics driver before updating to new ones.

Try this: Download the nVIDIA driver you want, or two to test them. Then use Phyxion.net - Driver Sweeper to remove your current graphics drivers. Then install the one you've saved.

I also agree that the latest 280.xx isn't the best out there, I am using the 270.61 myself since newer ones are buggy on my system at least. If your GF's PC is a bit older, an older driver may be better. As many of us here have found with nVIDIA and ATI, newer is not always better.

I already downloaded Driver Sweeper and later i will delete all old graphic drivers. (later because here it's 2 AM!). I will also delete any programs about Nvidia on Program List. After I will try with Seven native driver for GF 6200 (WDDM) or older official Nvidia driver.

If your GF's PC is a bit older, an older driver may be better. As many of us here have found with nVIDIA and ATI, newer is not always better.

I really know this! In an other machine of mine there's an old Radeon X1300 and with native Seven drivers (24/04/2009) updated only by Windows Update, everything works like a charm! (with 3,8 in 3D games and 4,3 in Aero experience...not bad!!!)

very strange results. With original driver I had 3.2 on Aero Performance. With 275.33 drivers and all graphics quality values at max, I had only 2.9...where's the problem??

You must remember that OEM drivers supplied by the computer manufacturer may have different functionality to drivers supplied by the hardware manufacturers.

For that reason, it's not always the best idea to install the latest drivers from the hardware manufacturer rather than stick to your computer manufacturer's updates.

For OEM manufacturer drivers do you mean this "Nvidia GeForce 6200 (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM)", installed by Seven after swapping cards?

WDDM stands for Windows Display Driver Model and if a graphics driver is WDDM-certified it means it can cope with the Windows Aero function - the driver can be OEM or retail.

Display and Graphics

Just to repeat, OEM drivers are provided by the computer manufacturer and may have different functionality to a card manufacturer's driver, but both must meet WDDM requirements to be certified by Microsoft.

In case you didn't know, OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer, which can cover anyone from a large computer manufacturer such as Dell down to the guy who builds his own computer.

Whichever driver you install, it's always better to uninstall the old one first.
