I recently bought a Razer Chimaera 5.1 Wireless Head Phones: Buy Razer Chimaera 5.1 Xbox Wireless Gaming Headset | Official Razer

I'm running a laptop, an Asus G73Jh: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. - Notebooks- ASUS G73Jh

I'm not entirely sure if I'm getting the most out of the head phones, considering that there were no drivers or anything to install, but it seems like it should be louder, and I don't think it's working like I had hoped it would while I'm playing games; granted I don't know much about surround sound, so I was just wondering if any of you had any ideas

How have you connected them? Wirelessly or via the 3.5mm Headphone? Some wired cans need more 'oomph' than laptops can deliver to drive them properly. However, wirelessly; this should be eliminated because they are self-powered/driven by the batteries.

And what device is being used / shown by sound>Playback devices>Playback? What are all the volume/EQ settings set to? Also have you cranked the volume settings on the headphones themselves? (rule out the obvious from the start)

By nature, surround is 'softer' - particularly when emulated. I'm not familiar with those cans so i have no idea if they are a 'loud' or 'soft' set.

Do you have another device (like the 360) to test them on?

The base is connected by a 3.5mm to RCA cable, but the head phones themselves are wireless, the base is what feeds the phones the 5.1 surround. And I believe the device is Realtek HD Audio, yes I have the volume up on the head set its self also, and no I don't have a 360 anymore to test them out; For some reason when I play music or movies in VLC or Media Player classic is much much louder, but can't get that same strength when listening to music (unless I use those two media players)

Since the music is 2ch, it may be worth trying another player with advanced options.

Foobar has some good tweaking options.
