Log-in to my user account from any networked computer?

Ok guys/gals,

I have searched but all I find are dead threads or not quite what I'm looking for.

Here is what I'm trying to do, I have 3 computers running win7 (1 hp & 2 ult) and I would like to be able to sit at any one of them and log-in to my Account Name and see my files,desktop,favs. ect.... And have them synced together... i.e. ... If I add a file to my default computer and then logoff and go to another computer on my network and login to my Account, the file would be there too. I hope this makes since. I do already have them networked, file sharing, streaming.

I'm wondering if a simple solution would be to change the location of your 'My Documents' (Properties/Location) to a common NAS or shared folder location on all machines? I've done this across different hard drives on the same PC but I've not tried it across a network address but it may be worth trying.

Wouldn't you need a domain/ client setup for that? Or can you do that in a workgroup? But yeah I think it would be easier to have the folders/files in a shared setting so you can access them. You would need a roaming user profile which is usually available in a domain client network where you loggin to the domain. Essentially you would need a windows domain server in a intranet. Please correct if this is not true.

If you use remote desktop that is built into Windows 7 on any of the networked machines, when you log in, you are basically sitting at your PC and anything you do there is done on your machine.
I've been doing that recently when I am downstairs on 1 of the 2 machines we have in the family room, log in with Remote Desktop and I am sitting in front of my PC upstairs.

If you are using workgroup in a 'work' network (rather than Homegroup) then this should work by pointing all PC's to the same location.


Try this:

• Create a shared directory on one PC or NAS;
• In Windows Explorer click on Computer in the L/H pane.
• Than expand Local Disk C (or whatever your primary partition is called).
• Click on Users
• Then click on your User account.
• Right-click on THAT Documents folder and select the Location tab;
• Then point to a shared location;
• Repeat on all your PC's

I might try a few of these out, but I think I'm looking more for a server/terminal setup. I was just hoping for an easier way! It's ok though as it's not needed but just something I was going to give try.

There is always something like Teamviewer - Free for personal use - Remote control from any PC in a LAN or even over the Net - You don't even need the software installed on the PC you are remoting from, using a web interface.
